$25,000 Goal

TR Hoover is a community organization that focuses on providing educational, social and community services to our South Dallas neighborhood. With the help of a team of volunteers, TR Hoover offers a variety of programs to the children and adults in our community. During the academic year, we run an after school program for 40 children and during the summer, we run a 10 week summer camp. These programs not only provide educational enhancement to our kids, we provide a safe, structured environment where they can get homework help, attend field trips and received nutritious meals. We offer ESL classes to our community members as well as weekly programming for seniors in our community. We provide members of the community access to our food pantry and clothing closet once a week. We have a learning garden that is used to not only grow organic fruits and vegetables that are distributed to our client families, but we also use the garden to teach nutrition, resilience and self-sufficiency. The garden's purpose is to not only provide food, but give a sense of community through education, arts, culture and music.

Our Needs

The two things that our organization needs currently is financial support to enhance our technology programs through our Hoover Tech Center and for general operational needs. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, our limited technology in the community has been glaring, we have been fortunate to be able to provide computers and internet to families in need. Not only are we in a digital desert, we are also in a food desert. We have been providing a twice a week grocery distribution to over 150 children, families and senior citizens. Additionally, we provide a hot lunch 4 days a week to any child in need. We are currently serving between 200-300 meals weekly. These programs need resources and funding to continue. With the North Texas Giving Day, we are hoping to raise $25,000 to help provide, educational opportunities in STEAM related for families to have access through Hoover Tech Center and food to our neighbors in need. These resources will help to create a community that can successfully thrive with the right exposure to these valuable resources.
