From Blooming Back to Giving Back

Someone thought enough of me to share an opportunity called Bloom Back with me. At the time, I didn't fully know what I was saying yes to. I just knew I needed something different.

I had heard people talk about creating spaces where women could slow down, breathe, heal, and simply be. But if I'm being truthful, I wasn't sure spaces like that really existed beyond the words.

Then I experienced Bloom Back.

For six months, I was part of The Lotus Club's inaugural Bloom Back cohort, affectionately given the name “OG7.” Through therapy, community, reflection, and the permission to slow down, I began unpacking layers I hadn't even realized were there, including burnout and things I had simply accepted as normal. 

What made Bloom Back different for me was that I didn't just hear about The Lotus Club's mission. I experienced it.

I experienced what it meant to be seen without having to overextend myself first and was reminded that healing, support, rest, and community aren't things we have to earn.

My Bloom Back experience ended, but my connection to The Lotus Club didn't. Today, I've had the privilege of coming full circle by serving on its Board of Directors as Fundraising Chair.

Someone opened this door for me. I walked through it and discovered that the space I wasn't sure existed was real. Now, I have the opportunity to help hold that door open for another woman.

That's why I'm raising $1,000 this North Texas Giving Day.

While Bloom Back is the part of The Lotus Club's work that I experienced personally, it represents something much bigger. Through its programs, resources, and community, The Lotus Club creates spaces for Black women to find support, connection, restoration, and the tools to move forward.
