Getting puppies out from under a house
Angie has spent the past few days catching puppies! There's a litter of pups living under a house in W Dallas. And the owners are not too pleased. Fortunately, Angie convinced the owners to allow her to trap the pups and help get the momma and daddy out of the area instead of using another, lethal, alternative solution and several days later, Angie and a volunteer have used a LOT of patience to capture three pups - all of whom have found homes already! But, right now, two pups remain under the house, and you know Angie doesn't give up, so much more patience is required. . . Plus, the daddy, who is injured, and momma keep hanging around. Due to our lack of funds and fosters, we're hoping DAS will come get the parents. Not an ideal solution, but it will be good to get them off the street and get daddy some vetting.
It's been twenty-six years of helping animals in need in West Dallas and Angie is still out there trying to make a difference. On April 29, Angie will turn 85 years old and while the rescue/rehome side of her work has slowed a smidge (anyone out there looking to foster??), the number of calls Angie's Friends receives in a week about animals in desperate situations hasn't diminished at all. And Angie's drive to help those in need hasn't diminished, either.
Over the years, Angie's Friends has rescued and rehomed hundreds of dogs and cats, in addition to a few chickens, turtles, ducks, hamsters, and rabbits. On top of that, Angie has long been a neighborhood resource for low-income people who love their animals but have limited means to care for them. Through word of mouth, they find Angie and ask for assistance with everything from food to surrendering animals to assistance in emergency situations. Angie’s Friends provides medical care for animals that go home to their families that includes dentals, tumor removal, treatment of heartworm, amputations, flea control, antibiotics, deworming, spay/neuter, and mange.
Angie also continues to help neglected yard dogs to have a better life by replacing heavy metal chains hung around backyard dogs with light weight cables, providing food and clean water, providing flea preventative and fly deterrent, and vetting when necessary allowing these dogs to have a better life. Angie's Friends rarely gets reimbursed for these necessary expenses; loving pet owners don't always have the means to help their pets. Angie's Friends is committed to helping dogs, cats, and other animals, whatever their plight, to improve their lives as much as possible.
As we celebrate Angie's 85th birthday, we're asking you to help give Angie the gift she wants most - the ability to keep helping animals in need. We're hoping to raise $15,000 to do just that!
Adoption fees cover a portion of the typical vetting required for stray or abandoned animals (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, deworming, and flea and heartworm preventative). For everything else, these animals are relying on donations to so we can help them. The remainder of standard vetting and any additional costs such as surgeries, medications, training, and humane euthanasia when we're unable to alleviate suffering are only possible through donations.
We can't do it without you. Please consider a donation to help us help animals in need in West Dallas. We appreciate you SO much!
