Until Everyone Can Read

Every year, North Texas Giving Day gives us an opportunity to support the organizations that make our community stronger. For me, there is no cause more personal than ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn to read.

My commitment to literacy began long before it became my career. I was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child, and I was incredibly fortunate to receive the specialized instruction and support I needed to become a successful reader. I know what it feels like to be the child who struggles in the classroom, but I also know what is possible when a child has the right support at the right time. Those experiences shaped the work I have devoted my career to: helping ensure that other children have the same opportunity I was given.

That is why the work of the International Dyslexia Association – Dallas Branch means so much to me. Through scholarships, educator training, community education, and programs that connect families with effective support, the Dallas Branch is helping make sure that a child's ability to learn to read isn't determined by their family's ability to pay for specialized instruction.

Serving this organization has been one of the most meaningful parts of my adult life. I am continually inspired by the families who advocate for their children, the educators who dedicate themselves to learning how to teach every student, and the community of people who believe that dyslexia should never stand in the way of a child's potential.

Your gift helps provide children with access to the instruction they need, helps teachers become better equipped to support struggling readers, and helps build a community where more children can discover the confidence and possibilities that come with being able to read.
