WTxFF is strictly curated to show the range and scope of the female filmmaker voice. In a time when women have raised their voices to empower each other and demand change, WTxFF supports the movement by amplifying female voices and perpetuating the successes of their peers. We embrace diversity and storytelling risk takers. Many of our festival alumni have gone on to Sundance, Slamdance, and worked with major cable and TV shows.
In 2019, WTxFF returned to the historic Texas Theatre and expanded its reach across Dallas with screenings at Methodist Dallas' David H. Hitt Auditorium and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Cedars. WTxFF also continued to grow in terms of the number of films programmed, with this year's edition nearly doubling the number of features that were offered last year (17 feature-length films and 29 short films). Additionally, free education panels about filmmaking took place during WTxFF and was open to the public.
In 2020, WTxFF went fully online for the safety of filmmakers and guests and it was amazing. We were able to program on par to our largest year (2019) with 48 participating filmmakers, 12 features and 36 shorts. Our livestreams included filmmakers from all over the world, including Mexico, Israel and Argentina.
Every year, WTxFF programs a selection of films that explore psychological, medical, and/or sociological issues. WTxFF has built a reputation of programming documentaries and narrative films that take tough, uncompromising looks at subjects in this realm and then expanding on the conversations those films inspire in the post-screening Q&As/panels.
Online screening costs for Community Series that will be programmed the remainder of 2020 and into 2021. Also, filmmakers travel and hotel costs for 2021 festival.
Women Texas Film Festival celebrates women who lead in filmmaking by showcasing the range of female voices throughout the medium. We give female storytellers a stage to project their voices and build a community that is safe, empowering, and impactful. Through film screenings, panels, and social events, we encourage filmmakers to build partnerships and push forward as decision makers in the stories they tell. WTxFF screens qualified films that have women in at least one key creative role: Writer, Producer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor.
