Our Needs

At Remember Me, we are committed to giving retired Thoroughbred racehorses a safe place to land and a fresh start. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely on the generous support of individuals like you to meet the daily needs of the horses in our care.

General donations help cover essential expenses, including:

  • Sanctuary Horse Care – Some of our Thoroughbreds are lifelong residents due to age, injury, or special needs. Your support ensures they receive daily care, comfort, and dignity for the rest of their lives.

  • Retired Racehorses Awaiting Adoption – Every new arrival requires specialized care, including veterinary evaluations, training assessments, and daily handling to prepare them for a second career or loving home.

  • Feed and Hay – Nutritious, high-quality feed and hay are fundamental to every horse’s recovery and long-term health.

  • Veterinary and Farrier Care – Regular hoof care is just as important as medical care. Donations help us provide professional farrier services alongside routine and emergency veterinary treatment.

Every contribution—big or small—helps ensure our horses receive the care they deserve as they transition into new lives beyond the track. Thank you for making this work possible.

Mission

The Remember Me Retired Racehorse Program was formed by racehorse trainers and volunteers to assist retired and injured racehorses after their careers at the track are over. We accept, rehabilitate, and retrain exracehorses with the hopes of finding them new homes with responsible owners. Remember Me has been a 501(c)3 since 2008 and accredited by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance since 2014. We have been accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries and a Guardian for the EQUUS Foundation since 2021.

Needs

🐴 Items We Regularly Need

These supplies help us provide safe, consistent care to the horses in our program:

Halters (all sizes)

Lead ropes

Fly spray

Grooming supplies (brushes, hoof picks, shampoo, etc.)

Water buckets (5-gallon and larger)

Feed tubs

50' garden hoses (durable, freeze-resistant preferred)

Wheelbarrows and muck forks

First aid supplies (vet wrap, thermometer, wound care items)

Fly masks and sheets

Heavy-duty extension cords

Salt and mineral blocks

Stall bedding or funds for bulk shavings

🛠️ Special Project: Round Pen Covering

We’re currently raising funds to cover our 50' round pen, which will allow us to continue training and working with horses year-round—even during rain or extreme heat. This structure will make a huge difference for both adoptable horses and our team.

Equity Statement

Our commitment to equity begins with the horses we serve. We believe every retired thoroughbred deserves an equal opportunity for a safe, healthy, and purposeful life after the track, regardless of their earnings or athletic potential. This philosophy extends to our organization’s culture: we strive to foster a community where every voice is heard and every contribution is valued. On North Texas Giving Day, your support helps us provide equitable care and individualized retraining to every horse that enters our program, ensuring no thoroughbred is left behind.
