About NICA
Located near Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards, Northside Inter-Community Agency (NICA) was established in 1969 to serve our neighbors by providing food, essential resources, crisis assistance, educational opportunities, and supportive programs to individuals and families throughout Fort Worth’s Northside and surrounding communities.
What We Do
NICA’s mission is to aid and uplift our neighbors, providing food and other resources, as well as fostering opportunities that strengthen families and our community. Our work is guided by our core values of Dignity, Empowerment, Kindness, Engagement, Integrity, and Inclusion. Every person who walks through NICA’s doors comes with a different story and a different need. For some, it may be groceries to help their family make it through the month. For others, it may be help navigating a crisis, finding community resources, supporting an aging loved one, or creating new opportunities for their children. NICA works to meet our neighbors where they are addressing immediate needs while connecting individuals and families with resources that can lead to greater stability and opportunity.
Our Need: $10,000 in Community Support
This North Texas Giving Day, NICA is seeking $10,000 in community support to strengthen our agency as a whole and help sustain the many programs and services our neighbors depend on.
Community support helps make possible:
Food Pantry & Emergency Food Assistance: Providing nutritious groceries and immediate food assistance to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, including blessing bags for our unsheltered neighbors.
Crisis Support: Helping neighbors navigate difficult circumstances by connecting them with resources for housing, employment, benefits, behavioral health, hygiene and clothing needs, and other essential services.
Good Works: Supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities through food assistance, social connection, wellness activities, and other resources that promote independence and quality of life.
Aventuras Rising: Empowering high school students in grades 10–12 through life skills, college and career exploration, mentorship, community engagement, and scholarship opportunities.
Leamos Juntos/Let’s Read Together: Bringing children, families, and community members together each month for bilingual literacy, reading, community connection, and engagement with local role models.
Community Outreach & Family Support: Creating opportunities throughout the year to connect families with resources, education, wellness activities, community partners, and one another.
More Than One Program
A gift to NICA is not limited to one program or one type of need. It gives our team the flexibility to respond to the real and often unexpected challenges our neighbors face every day.
Someone may initially come to NICA because they need food, but through that conversation, our team may discover that the family is also facing a housing crisis, needs clothing for their children, is struggling to access benefits, or needs to be connected with additional community resources.
That is where NICA's work goes beyond providing a service we help our neighbors navigate the next step.
Together, we can ensure that when a neighbor turns to NICA for help, we are ready to meet them where they are with dignity, kindness, resources, and opportunity.
