Cara Mía Theatre: Uniting All People Through Latinx Theatre and Celebrating 30 Years of Community & Creation

In honor of our 30th Anniversary Season, Cara Mía Theatre will endeavor to raise at least $30,000 to support creativity that we have nurtured over the last three decades.

When you support Cara Mia Theatre you will be supporting a number of unique artistic, educational, and community engagement initiatives during our 2026-2027 anniversary season, commencing in August 2026.

This is how your gift will have an impact:

  • 7th Annual Latinidades Theatre Festival (Sept-October 2026) - A global celebration of culture, connection, and creative exchange — Cara Mía’s most visible and unifying event offers exciting international theatre, music, and culture and features artists and companies from across the U.S. and Latin America. The festival has become a destination for world-class performance, cultural diversity, and community.

  • 3rd Annual Arts Symposium (October 2026) - Now in its 3rd year, the Latinidades Arts Symposium brings together artists, cultural leaders, educators, and arts organizations to explore how our arts can thrive in times of change. Through conversations on mentorship, funding trends, AI and the arts, and community-building, the Symposium creates space for learning, collaboration, and intergenerational exchange.

  • MARIACHI (March 2027) - MARIACHI, is a new bilingual play inspired by the oral histories of legendary Texas mariachi musicians and educators.
Commissioned by the Center for Mexican American Studies and the Voces Oral History Center at the University of Texas at Austin, MARIACHI explores the origins of mariachi in Mexico, the rise of mariachi education in Texas schools, and the families and artists who carried this musical tradition across generations. The production will also feature student matinee performances with live mariachi music, interactive artist master classes, and TEKS-aligned educational experiences connecting theatre, music, storytelling, and Texas cultural history.

  • The School of YES! - Cara Mia's FREE month-long summer camp for ages 7–18! Students are taught by respected professional artists from the DFW community who are not just successful but also look like the students they are teaching. Classes emphasize communication skills, collaboration, and the creation of original artwork through theatre, music, dance, visual arts, film-making, photography, and leadership instruction! The School of YES! provides students the courage and tools to pursue their own projects in their own communities, thus strengthening cultural and community relations while providing a sense of ownership and strong social responsibility.

  • Programs for Schools - Cara Mía Theatre’s core educational programs for youth include after-school residencies, in-school bilingual touring productions, and on-site field trip performances at the Latino Cultural Center. All programs feature original curricula that celebrate culture and support the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards. Educational programs are built on a framework that emphasizes intercultural learning and relationship building.
