What We Do
Every animal’s journey is different. Some require only routine veterinary care before finding a forever home, while others need extensive diagnostics, surgery, rehabilitation, or months of recovery before they’re ready for adoption.
We’re not breed-specific—we’re need-specific. We believe every animal deserves the opportunity to heal, regardless of breed, age, or medical condition.
Today, most animals in our program are adopted directly through Abandoned Pet Project, with select animals transferred to trusted rescue partners when it’s in the animal’s best interest. Every adoption is thoughtfully matched to help create lifelong success for both the animal and their new family.
Our Story
Abandoned Pet Project was founded on a simple belief: every animal deserves a chance, no matter how difficult their circumstances.
Our organization’s early growth was closely connected to our partnership with Vet Ranch, whose network of dedicated veterinarians provided lifesaving medical care for homeless animals with treatable conditions. Together, we helped countless animals receive the medical treatment they needed and find loving forever homes. Many of our earliest supporters discovered our mission through the Vet Ranch community, and we’re grateful for the role that partnership played in helping build the organization we are today.
Over the years, Abandoned Pet Project has evolved from primarily funding medical care into a rescue that also coordinates foster homes, facilitates adoptions, supports community outreach, and collaborates with veterinarians and fellow rescue organizations to save even more lives.
While much has evolved, our mission remains the same: providing animals in need with the medical care, compassion, and second chances they deserve.
Abandoned Pet Project (APP) is a non-profit organization that was founded to create partnerships between animal rescue groups and veterinarians in order to work together to save lives. Its goal is to fund medical care for homeless animals whom have been pulled from shelter euthanasia lists into responsible rescue partner's or our rescue program (APPR). The medical treatments of these animals are funded by APP through generous contributions made by people from all over the world. APP has three volunteer board members and it supports the treatment of homeless animals by our vet partners. Our rescue program team is also completely volunteer run and foster based. After the necessary treatment, the animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and are placed up for adoption through our program or one of our partners.
Mission
Abandoned Pet Project is dedicated to providing funding and support for abandoned, abused, neglected, and homeless animals so they can receive the medical care they need and the second chances they deserve.
As a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based nonprofit, we work alongside foster families, veterinarians, rescue organizations, and our community to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. In addition to caring for the animals in our program, we proudly support community outreach initiatives, spay/neuter efforts, and collaborative partnerships that improve animal welfare throughout our communities.
Needs
APP currently needs funds to continue this lifesaving work of medical care support for other rescues, community outreach clinics, transport of animals to other areas, and our rescue program. We have invested over $2,781,000 in the care and medical needs of animals such as dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, chickens, lizards, and rabbits in need both in our rescue program, partner rescues, Vet Ranch animals, and shelter partners since our founding. Training and Education: We provide ongoing training for volunteers on unconscious bias, cultural competency, and inclusive animal care practices. We also offer resources for the community on responsible pet ownership and the benefits of adopting from a shelter.
Advocacy and Outreach: We advocate for policies that promote animal welfare for all animals, regardless of their background. We partner with other animal welfare organizations and community groups to ensure equitable access to pet resources and services.
