Variety, The Children's Charity of Texas

A nonprofit organization

Since 1936, Variety of Texas has connected families with thousands of pieces of essential equipment—such as electric wheelchairs, adaptive bikes, communication devices, and mobility aids—that increase access and support each child’s preferred ways of moving, communicating, and engaging. Over the last 20 years, we have invested more than $3.5 million in medical and therapeutic resources for families who encounter gaps in traditional coverage. Our programs foster inclusive environments that honor each child’s strengths and support meaningful participation, confidence, and joy.

Mission

Variety – the Children’s Charity of Texas is a 90-year-old nonprofit organization that partners with children with disabilities and their families to expand access, inclusion, and opportunities across the state. We support children with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities year-round by strengthening the resources and environments that help them thrive. Our mission is to provide equipment, services, and experiences that enhance autonomy, belonging, and joyful participation in all areas of life.

Needs

Variety Texas needs increased funding and community support to meet the growing demand for accessible programs, adaptive equipment, and family support services for children with disabilities across Texas. As requests for assistance continue to rise, the organization requires sustainable resources to expand statewide programming, reduce waitlists, improve accessibility, and ensure families can access inclusive opportunities regardless of financial barriers. Additional support will help Variety Texas strengthen community partnerships, increase outreach, and continue building programs that promote inclusion, participation, and belonging for children with disabilities and their families.

Equity Statement

Variety Texas believes every child deserves equitable access to opportunities, experiences, and support that allow them to fully participate in their communities. We are committed to reducing barriers faced by children with disabilities and their families by designing inclusive programs, prioritizing accessibility, and centering the voices and lived experiences of the disability community. We strive to foster a culture of respect, belonging, and dignity where all children and families feel valued, supported, and empowered.
