Athlete Education & Development Intiative

Team Texas began in 1996 as a community of coaches, athletes, and families who believed climbing could transform young lives. As the program grew, volunteers recognized that supporting young athletes required more than technical coaching alone. Families were organizing events, mentoring one another, fundraising, creating leadership opportunities, and building a community that helped athletes thrive both on and off the wall.
To sustain and expand this work, those volunteers formally established the Team Texas Rock Climbing Foundation in 2006. The Foundation exists to strengthen the support systems surrounding young athletes through leadership development, mentorship, educational programming, community engagement, and fundraising that enhances the athlete experience.
While Team Texas athletes have gone on to represent Team USA, win national championships, and compete on the Olympic stage, those accomplishments are not our primary measure of success. Our greatest pride is watching young people grow into resilient adults who return as coaches, mentors, volunteers, and leaders within the same community that helped shape them. Several hundred young people have been part of Team Texas since 1996, creating a lasting legacy of leadership and service that continues to grow with each generation.

Our organization welcomes every athlete and parent who wants to grow, climb, and belong. We believe that a strong climbing community is built when people of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities feel safe, respected, and supported.
We work to make sure everyone on our team has fair access to training, coaching, and opportunities, and we celebrate the different perspectives and strengths each athlete brings. This means we listen to each other, we use encouraging and respectful language, we challenge bias when we see it, and we make space for every athlete to be themselves.
We are committed to learning, improving, and creating an environment where all youth can thrive. Our goal is an organizational culture where everyone feels valued, included, and inspired to reach their highest potential—on and off the wall.
