Swan Strings founder, Jessica Garland, has been teaching guitar in Dallas for thirteen years. Garland's experience has been primarily serving the South Dallas, Oak Cliff and Arts District areas. Swan Strings is a 501c3 non-profit music program with a mission to provide free music education and sound therapy services to North Texas individuals without access. Swan Strings received its 501c3 status in 2019 and has partnered with Junior Players for classes at South Dallas Cultural Center, Pan-African Connection, and Arts Mission Oak Cliff. Founding Director, Jess Garland has provided approximately 339 hours of free music education and has served 226 children. Swan Strings is currently offering 8 virtual music lessons. Currently our online guitar lessons are being sponsored by the City of Dallas' Offices of Arts and Culture and Moody Fund For The Arts.
Swan Strings music program Is formally known as Guitar Lessons by Jess. Guitar Lessons by Jess is a program that has provided 124 hours of free music education. The program started during the summer in 2017. The program was able to successfully complete both summer 2017 and spring 2018 workshops with the help of partnering with the City of Dallas' Office of Cultural Affairs and raising funds. Through fundraising and sponsorships, Swan Strings has been able to continue free music lessons throughout the year. Swan Strings has recently received a grant from the Moody Fund for the Arts.
Our Needs
Reaching the goal would allow Swan Strings to provide free music every day for Fall 2021-Spring 2022. Each workshop would be for 1 hour each day.
