ABOUT US

New Media Contemporary is an artist-run gallery, studio, experimental listening room, and research space dedicated to showcasing art in innovative ways. Its programming centers around three core pillars: curation, collaboration, and community. The gallery curates cutting-edge New Media Art and diverse New Music genres, featuring video, sound and time based work, projections, installations, photography, and digitally fabricated sculpture. Through collaborations with partners across various sectors, it emphasizes group exhibitions that highlight multi-genre, multi-medium practices. Educational offerings include classes on AI Art, Audio Acoustics, and transitioning from traditional 2D work to contemporary New Media approaches.

We are particularly interested in work that blurs the lines between digital and physical, human and machine, personal and collective. Our curatorial vision is rooted in the belief that art can be a transformative force, one that challenges systems, sparks dialogue, and connects deeply with people from all walks of life. Drawing from a wide range of influences including sound design, experimental composition, and sensory installation, our programming reflects a dynamic intersection of culture, innovation, and lived experience.

Located in the heart of Dallas, New Media Contemporary offers more than just exhibitions; it serves as a platform for collaboration, research, and community activation. Our shows often incorporate interactive elements, spatial sound, real-time data, and performance—inviting audiences to not just witness, but participate in the work.

Needs how your dollar directly impacts NMC

Artist Compensation + Scaling Access, Not PricesWe’re committed to paying artists fairly and maintaining public accessibility. Ticket sales play an important role, and our sliding scale ticketing system furthered by community support can help us sustain our commitment to keeping events accessible to all. Your contribution directly supports the performers, musicians, and digital artists who make NMC’s programming possible, ensuring their time and work are valued.

Our ticketing model prioritizes accessibility through sliding-scale pricing and donation-based entry.  Donor funding fills that gap, allowing NMC to grow without shifting costs onto the community.

Free & Accessible ProgrammingMany of our offerings are intentionally free to the public, such as

⦿  Visual exhibitions with no entry fee
⦿  Open coding nights where anyone can participate.
⦿  Community listening sessions and experimental gatherings

Space & InfrastructureMaintaining a physical space for media art, performance, and experimentation comes with ongoing costs such as rent, equipment, technical upgrades, and maintenance. Contributions directly support the tools and environment that artists and participants rely on.

Sustaining a Creative EcosystemNMC functions as more than a venue; it is a meeting point for artists, coders, musicians, and audiences. Financial support helps maintain this ecosystem by funding collaborations, recurring events, and new programming that responds to the community.

Equity Statement

At New Media Contemporary, equity is essential to new media and central to our mission. We intentionally create space for artists from a wide range, especially those whose practices fall outside traditional or commercial art structures. Our programming prioritizes inclusive curation, accessible education, and opportunities for emerging and underrepresented artists working across digital, physical, and experimental mediums. We approach our work with cultural consciousness and care, ensuring that diverse voices have the tools, visibility, and support they need to thrive

By supporting New Media Contemporary on North Texas Giving Day, donors help cultivate a more equitable arts ecosystem in Dallas, one where innovation is accessible and artists from marginalized communities are empowered to share work that reflects their lived experiences. Your contribution directly fuels exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative initiatives that invite people from all backgrounds to engage, participate, and genuinely feel welcome.

Mission

The gallery’s curatorial mission centers on fostering interdisciplinary work that bridges the digital and physical, the individual and collective, and the historical and futuristic. Through visual art, sound, and new media, we create experiences that speak to the complexities of our cultural fabric, celebrating movement, identity, and the stories that connect us.

We are especially passionate about supporting emerging and mid-career artists whose practices are often overlooked by commercial markets or traditional institutions. Through this approach, we aim to dissolve traditional barriers between artist and viewer, allowing for more direct and visceral engagement.
