The Journey Home

In October 2025, 22 Italian Greyhounds entered rescue as the result of a large-scale seizure case. It was the largest intake our Texas and Oklahoma program had faced since the Texas 60 rescue in 2016.

These dogs did not need heroes.

They needed a chance.

A chance to experience life beyond a kennel.

A chance to receive medical care.

A chance to learn that people could be trusted.

A chance to discover what it means to be safe, loved, and finally at home.

Many arrived with little experience of the world most dogs know. Everyday things—walking on a leash, exploring a backyard, sleeping on a couch, meeting new people, or simply relaxing in a home—were unfamiliar. Some were timid. Some were uncertain. All of them faced a future very different from the one they had known.

But rescue is never a single moment.

The day a dog enters rescue is only the beginning.

Recovery takes time. It takes veterinary care, diagnostic testing, vaccinations, parasite treatment, spay and neuter surgeries, dental care, transportation, and countless hours of patience. It takes foster homes willing to open their doors and provide stability, routine, and compassion while a dog learns how to navigate a new world.

For months, our foster families celebrated the small victories that mean everything.

A wagging tail.

A playful zoomie.

The confidence to walk through a doorway.

The first time a dog climbed into a lap.

The moment fear began to give way to trust.

These are the milestones that cannot be measured on a medical chart but are every bit as important to a dog's recovery.

Today, many of these dogs are thriving in loving homes. They are sleeping under blankets, playing with toys, going for walks, making new friends, and enjoying the simple comforts of being cherished family members.

Their journey did not happen overnight.

It happened because people cared.

Because foster homes made room.

Because volunteers gave their time.

Because veterinarians provided care.

And because donors made it possible to say "yes" when these dogs needed help most.

The work is not over.

Every year, Italian Greyhounds enter rescue needing medical care, rehabilitation, and a safe place to land. Some come from neglect. Some from loss. Some from circumstances beyond their control. All of them deserve the opportunity to heal and begin again.

This North Texas Giving Day, your support will help provide veterinary care and second chances for Italian Greyhounds throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

Because every dog deserves more than survival.

Every dog deserves a home.

Mission

💙 Our Mission

To rescue, heal, and rehome Italian Greyhounds in need—giving each dog a second chance at the life and love they deserve. We’re also committed to educating the public about the unique needs of this fragile, quirky breed so that every adoption is a lasting one.

🌟 Our Vision

We dream of a world where every Italian Greyhound is safe, cherished, and home. While that day may be far off, we work tirelessly toward it—one dog at a time. Our vision is to never turn away an IG in need, no matter how complex their medical or emotional needs. We hope to grow our capacity to provide top-tier veterinary care without fear of financial strain, and to welcome every broken body or wounded spirit into our foster homes with open arms and open hearts.

Needs

Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation exists to provide a safe future for Italian Greyhounds in need. Whether a dog comes to us through owner surrender, abandonment, neglect, or a larger rescue effort, every dog deserves the opportunity to receive the medical care needed to heal and move forward.

We are a volunteer-run, foster-based rescue serving Texas and Oklahoma. Our volunteers open their homes, provide transportation, coordinate care, and support each dog's journey from rescue to adoption.

Donations are used exclusively to support veterinary care for the dogs in our program.

That includes:

Veterinary examinations

Diagnostic testing

Vaccinations and preventative care

Spay and neuter procedures

Dental treatment

Emergency medical care

Prescription medications and follow-up treatment

Medical care is, and always has been, the largest expense in rescue. Some dogs require only routine care before adoption. Others arrive with significant medical needs requiring extensive treatment and rehabilitation.

Because our volunteers donate their time, foster homes, and transportation, donor support allows us to focus resources where they matter most—helping dogs receive the veterinary care they need.

In 2025, our Texas and Oklahoma program welcomed 22 Italian Greyhounds from a large seizure case, the largest intake our program had faced since the Texas 60 rescue in 2016. Like every dog who enters our care, they needed medical attention, patience, and time to heal.

Your support helps ensure that when the next dog needs help, rescue can say "yes."

Because every Italian Greyhound deserves the chance to be healthy, safe, and loved.
