Few green spaces in this industrial/urban setting means *fewer* safe spaces. It's not a great place for cats to be. The average lifespan of a street cat is 2 years. We're like-minded animal-friends working & living in the Design District.
We've built relationships with several prominent shops and galleries. Many are animal lovers who’ve also decided to make the welfare of these community companions a part of their lives.
During the past few years we've been trapping and neutering cats, providing shelters during freezing weather, and monitoring their health as best we can. At this stage of our operations there are several issues that have become critical priorities. One of the biggest challenges is reliable access to areas where cats can safely and hygienically be fed and monitored.
A common roadblock is building relationships with managers or land owners only to have the property sold and demolished with no viable alternative in the immediate area. This is often fatal to cats as it forces them to disperse across dangerous and unknown territory. The DD is a very bleak and unforgiving urban environment with high traffic.
Our challenge is to grow at a pace that can anticipates these setbacks and have facilities and resources to respond effectively so that the animals we're committed to care for do not fall through the cracks.
We want to help *every* cat survive, not just help the cats that *manage* to survive
