GALA North Texas is committed to celebrating diversity & enhancing equality for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer North Texans. GALA accomplishes its mission through three primary areas of focus, Community, Advocacy, and Education. GALA hosts events to ensure that the North Texas LGBTQ+ community has opportunities to come together and celebrate and congregate in a safe, affirming environment. Through our advocacy, GALA has established long-term relationships with local city councils, school boards, police departments and chambers of commerce to provide a link to the LGBTQ+ community for these organizations and individuals. When issues arrive related to the LGBTQ+ community, we want GALA to be the first call. Our educational efforts include programs for both LGBTQ+ individuals and allies. We prepare LGBTQ+ voter guides for local elections, host Meet the Candidate events, host speakers on hot topics, provide ally training and much more.
In addition to our programs for adults, we also have a GALA Youth program for LGBTQ+ children ages 13-19. This program started as a support group, but post-COVID has evolved into an organization hosting social events for our LGBTQ+ Youth. After two years of isolation, these kids need to be able to come together as a group in a safe, affirming environment, and GALA Youth provides them this opportunity, free of charge.
GALA is coming out of COVID with a renewed focus on community. COVID taught us all how much we need that in our lives for mental health and happiness. We are also closely following the issues of the day, as our rights are being challenged on multiple fronts. We are committed to fighting this at every turn and keeping our LGBTQ+ community aware of what is happening and encouraging their engagement when necessary.
