The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now making an alarming prediction that 1 in 3 Americans is either pre-diabetic or diabetic. This problem is especially concentrated in impoverished urban communities, where adequate nutrition is scarce and many are unaware of diabetes' impact on quality and quantity of life.
That's why we've launched a Chronic Disease Management Program in Bonton, South Dallas, and in West Dallas, where more than 300 residents have received screening and education so far -- resulting in a measurable difference in their health. Furthermore, due to both our front line work in underserved communities as well as our focus on chronic diseases, we are in a very unique position to address COVID-19 prevention and education.
The goal now is to impact many more lives by widening the impact of this program into more underserved DFW communities in 2020.
Funds received will directly help cover the costs of expanding our Dallas chronic disease initiative into more communities in 2020.
Chronic diseases like diabetes claim the lives of more adults each year than malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS combined. The Root Cause works alongside church, government and community leaders to help prevent, diagnose, and treat chronic diseases among underdeveloped communities -- transforming the lives of many who struggle with these deadly and expensive diseases.
