The mission of MJM is to provide light and hope to families who have experienced neglect and domestic violence by providing free legal representation and ongoing support to ensure that the children are with a caring and protective caregiver.  

MEET JAQUELINE

“I was married to the father of my children for 12 years. I thought marriage was forever, but it was a relationship marked by betrayals, aggression, and instability in all areas. Due to lack of finances, and holding on to my convictions and my young children, I remained in that relationship too long.

After an assault by my husband, my 10-year-old son locked himself in the restroom and called the police. My husband was arrested, and we finally left the family home for good. However, two months after my husband was released from jail, he entered the apartment my children and I had moved into while we were away and set it on fire. We lost everything. We were left to pick up the pieces and manage our emotional damage. A victim's advocate introduced me to the Methodist Justice Ministry (MJM). I felt welcomed and I trusted their work. Thanks to the amazing work they did, I am divorced, have a 10-year protective order, and have full custody of my two children. I am free! I am grateful for this country and its laws that protect victims of violence, and to MJM for being the bridge for the fulfillment of these laws. Thank you for your assistance, not only legal but also financial, which provided me with two months of rent while we were recovering from our loss. You played a very important role in the reconstruction of our lives! Thank you and God bless!”
