Roxy Ann Megahee. This is ROXY's story!
She was found on the side of the road in East Texas with 2 other puppies. She was pregnant :( Can you imagine the thoughts going through her head? A wonderful couple brought all of them in and she birthed 6 baby boys! It was March 2022 and the couple had a Spring Break trip planned so they were looking for help. It was shared all through FB, but many people couldn't help with the week off. Scott & I had no plans to travel so I just said, "I will do it." I didn't ask him and we already had 4 dogs. But I saw this face and my heart shattered. I fell in love with her from a picture.
She made it safely over to Humane Tomorrow headquarters. Her and the puppies were all checked out by the medical staff. The puppies still had their eyes closed. On March 9th, my son's 5th birthday, she was ready to come to her foster home. The timing wasn't perfect but is it ever? We were expecting about 20 neighbors over for quesadillas, margaritas, and piñatas for the kids for my son's birthday (a tradition we do every year for both kids). I was running out of time before guests were going to arrive. Instead of getting in the FM407 traffic, I took a road that was parallel and I would take the back way home. I was going too fast trying to get home and got pulled over a cop and got a ticket. I was flustered but I did speed so just did what I had to do to get out of there quick. I pull up to my house and my husband was busy getting the grill ready. I had to have a friend pick my kids up from the school's Extended School Day and bring them home. I bring in all the supplies to our upstairs bathroom and then bring all the dogs in.
Guests arrive and we are all just hanging out. Eventually, I brought one down to show my husband and he goes "Who has a puppy?" and my 7 year old daughter goes "WE DOOOO! And there's 6 more". After all the guests leave, me and the kids go see the puppies and play with them. My husband took Mama Roxy out to potty. He bonded with her as the kids wanted to see the puppies. The 6 puppies became the Breakfast Club: Bacon, Pancake, Biscuit, Gravy, Muffin, and Toast! After 8 weeks, the pups were all adopted out pretty quickly. Roxy was listed on the website but almost as soon as that happened, my husband said "Text them and tell them to take it down. She is ours." She bonded with our other same age dog we had adopted about 2 months prior. Our other 3 were older doggos that just spent most of the day sleeping. So our life became 5 dogs, 2 kids, and both working full time. What a time to be alive! Haha! It was such a wild time but we have zero regrets! We love our Roxy girl with all of our hearts.
It is easy to say "we don't have time to foster". I said it myself a lot. It was a commitment and I only did it because I was working from home. We know people cannot sign up for a commitment of this nature. So here is your chance to help these sweet pups! Click "Donate" today for a humane tomorrow!
