Mentors change lives

I was blessed with an opportunity to volunteer as a Mentor with MB2B in 2006.  During this time, I moved from watching on the sidelines to getting involved in the game.  MB2B has been providing mentoring to African American male youth from single female headed households since 1998.  M2MB works with youth focusing on leadership development, academic excellence, spiritual growth, community service, career exploration and life skills.

I remember a life changing experience for me was participating in the African American Boys Academic Bowl.  MB2B had 2 youth teams.  We would practice each week on a Saturday to prepare for the competition.   One of our teams made it the championship .  We came up a little short and got 2nd place.  To see the joy that this Academic competition brought to our mentees and their moms was amazing.   It was the same joy that I've witness as a spectator in a youth championship sporting event.
