Please help me create a positive impact on the lives of students with learning differences!

After homeschooling Jackson for 2 years, Ralph and I felt we had learned firsthand so much about his challenges and how to help him overcome them that we felt he was ready to transition back into a more social schooling environment. We had invested in the help of experts and the screenings necessary to gain the specific diagnoses we needed to point him in the right direction. We gathered what we knew, did some research, and then beat a path to The Key School and Training Center. The day I picked Jackson up from his first, all-day visit to the school, I knew from the smile on his face and the enthusiasm in his body language that he had found his place, and that we were about to experience a powerful and positive shift in the trajectory of his life.

Jackson is entering his 3rd year there (time flies!); and we have witnessed firsthand how the staff at The Key School and Training Center has lovingly supported and guided him in ways that other schools were unable to. We have seen Jackson experience so much personal growth and reach milestones we thought he might never have an opportunity to encounter. We know that the small class sizes, the pioneering teaching methods developed to activate each student’s unique gateway to learning, and the staff’s ability to see every student as a brilliant individual with much potential to be realized, are keys to his success.

The Key School and Training Center is a nonprofit organization with 3 educational programs: the K-12 Key School (where Jackson is an 8th-Grader), the Key School Summer Program (open to both Key School and non-Key School students needing an academic boost for the upcoming school year), and the Key Training Center (which provides outreach to the community of parents of children with learning differences and educator training for those interested in becoming Certified Academic Language Therapists). Unfortunately, tuition and fees from its programs only cover about 70% of the cost to educate a student or train a teacher. The gap between tuition and the cost to serve one student or teacher in The Key School and Training Center programs is approximately $10,000.

Ralph and I are committed to helping make up the difference; so each year, we donate to the Key Pillars Annual Fund, which directly benefits the operating budget and provides an immediate impact to the school, the teachers, and the students - including Jackson. This year, shortly after stepping into a position as a Board Member for The Key School and Training Center, I learned that The Morris Foundation has generously offered to match donations to my fundraising page during this month’s North Texas Giving Day campaign: “Many Hearts, Many Hands, One Focus: A Nonprofit Fundraiser Supporting Key School and Training Center”. It doesn’t get past me that the chance to potentially double the amount of my fundraising totals - and hence, double the benefits to the school - is an offer for which I’d be remiss to pass up. Ralph and I hope you will join us in taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity. Any amount you give will be greatly appreciated and will have direct benefits for Jackson, his school, and the communities receiving these much-needed services and educational opportunities.
