This year on North Texas Giving Day, United Way of Tarrant County’s Northeast Steering Committee is raising funds for a program that addresses one of the most critical issues in our area.

The #1 cause of death among teens is gun violence, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During the first six months of this year, 19 teenagers died by gun violence in Fort Worth. The One Second Collaborative (OSC) was created to directly address and prevent youth gun violence in our area. United Way of Tarrant County, the Fort Worth Police Department, the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County and countless community stakeholders have come together to support this initiative, launched in December 2022.

Using an evidence-based approach, the OSC unifies and coordinates the work of numerous community-based organizations that deliver street outreach, education, workforce training, internships, referrals for basic needs and other supports to everyday challenges young people and their families are experiencing.

“This issue is far too large to address in a silo,” said Regina Williams, UWTC’s executive vice president and chief impact officer. “It requires integration of efforts across our county to make a lasting impact.”

With a donation supporting the One Second Collaborative, you can help us as we strive for a city and county focused on safety, wellness and resiliency. Thank you!
