$42,000 Goal

This year International Peace Day (September 21) falls on the same day as North Texas Giving Day. It feels fitting to ask for a donation towards peace education on this day, and reflect a bit on what peace education is and why it is so crucial to our collective future.

“Peace is a practical principle of human civilisation and social organisation that is based on the very nature of man. Peace does not enslave him; rather, it exalts him.... And because it is based on man’s nature, it a constant, a universal principle that applies to all human beings. This principle must be our guide in building a science of peace and educating men for peace.” - Dr. Maria Montessori | Education and Peace

Peace education equips children with the interpersonal skills needed to thrive in a community.

Guides and older children model communication, grace and gentle direction in the classroom as children learn conflict resolution and problem solving. Through these experiences, a young child gains confidence and skill in navigating relationships within a community beyond their home. They learn how to respond to negative feelings and overcome hardship.

As they get older, students expand their work to explore local and global challenges. They further develop their critical thinking skills and work in an often autonomous environment that evolves with the children’s learning.Peace education is intrinsic in the Montessori method. The simple rules of respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment provide the foundation for a safe and loving community.

Your donation to fund our outdoor environments this year directly benefits the children in this daily work.

Our Goal of $42,000 will be used for covered porches on Ms. Sara, Ms. Cameron, Ms. Aguirre, Ms. Weir and Mr. Lew’s classrooms, a garden for Ms. Ka’s classroom, and a bike path and updated sandbox for the toddler play areas. Covered porches protect the work of the children in the harsh Texas elements and gardens provide an extension from the indoor Montessori environment.

----------------------------------------

Celebrating our 50th year in 2021, Waypoint Montessori is an AMI Recognized Montessori school serving children ages 14 months through 12 years.

Imagine an educational experience that includes daily enthusiasm from children and results in a lifelong passion for building knowledge...

This is the Montessori method, where children are excited to learn because they are choosing to learn about things that interest them. From the outset, children learn in a respectful, cooperative atmosphere, preparing them for "real life" and sharing with them what it means to be a member of the world.

As Dr. Maria Montessori believed, "this is our mission: to cast a ray of light and pass on."

Waypoint Montessori has a robust community of parents, students, alumni, staff, and supporters who work together with a common goal: we embrace education as a lifelong and enjoyable process for children, parents, and staff. We are a community of learners and friends, striving for harmony with one another.

Mission

Waypoint Montessori is a collaborative learning environment that provides integrated, whole-child education through the proven, authentic Montessori method.

Needs

Our Goal is $42,000 for covered porches on Ms. Sara, Ms. Cameron, Ms. Aguirre, Ms. Weir and Mr. Lew’s classrooms, a garden for Ms. Ka’s classroom, and a bike path and updated sandbox for the toddler play areas.

This represents an average gift of $400 per family. Please thoughtfully consider a gift of $400 or more to support the school in improving our outdoor environments. We are grateful for gifts of any size and 100% participation is the most important metric.
