The Vitamin Bridge (TVB) is based on a simple concept: if prenatal vitamins are beneficial to women with healthy diets and access to prenatal care, they must also be good for women who lack these resources. Our business plan is equally simple: procure prenatal vitamins and donate them to other nonprofits serving under-resourced women who need them. Knowledge is a powerful tool so, we also provide USDA’s “Tips for Pregnant Moms” with every bottle of vitamins donated. Healthier moms have healthier babies which is good for everyone.
Prenatal vitamins are recommended for women of childbearing potential to reduce preventable birth defects such as neural tube defects. Opportunities abound for the efficient delivery of these life-improving supplements to America’s most vulnerable. Our network of first-touch providers (pregnancy centers and low-cost health clinics), through whom we donate prenatal vitamins, is already serving under-resourced women. When prenatal vitamins are made available, these community-based providers become willing partners in promoting a healthier start to pregnancy for moms and babies.
Rooted in the principle of “Love your neighbor as yourself,” (Mark 12:31 NIV), TVB strives to fill nutritional gaps, reduce unnecessary suffering, and help others flourish. The opportunities and benefits are clear. How far TVB goes and how quickly it gets there will depend on the support it receives and the organizational structure established.
