Free is Expensive. Recovery is Priceless
Alcoholism is not an easy disease to understand and most often is considered a behavior problem – nothing could be further from the truth. It is a definable disease with a definable solution. At The Magdalen House, we believe all those seeking help deserve to find freedom from alcohol despite socioeconomic status, culture, race, or disability. Here, clients come to understand that they can recover from the illness and will be supported by a community dedicated to lifelong recovery.
The alcoholic problem in the United States is staggering: one in ten adults suffers from the disease, and less than 8% will receive the help they need.
At The Magdalen House, we believe cost should never be a barrier. We provide the only privately funded and completely free recovery programs in the Dallas area. We do not accept any form of government funding or require insurance.
Alcoholism and addiction are the underlying causes of many societal ills, including domestic violence, homelessness, food insecurity, neglected children, and broken families. Our programs address this foundational problem and save the city of Dallas thousands of dollars in valuable resources. Our primary objective is to educate individuals and their families on the disease of alcoholism.
The Magdalen House presents the problem of alcoholism, along with a practical application of the solution for any alcoholic through the following programs:

First Step ProgramFirst Step is a two-week, residential program for an alcoholic who wants to stop drinking but cannot. Our clients stay with us for 14 days, where they are safely separated from alcohol. They are given a home to live in, healthy meals, and structure to begin their recovery.

Next Step Program
Next Step groups serve as the bridge between temporary sobriety and long-term recovery. Here, we provide participants with education on the foundational tools necessary to sustain and grow in recovery from alcoholism via a three-month nonresidential program.

Community Program
Recovery is a life-long endeavor that is most successfully achieved when done in concert and in service to others. We offer solution-focused meetings and workshops 365 days a year for alcoholics at every stage of recovery. Our unique approach uses our community of recovered alcoholics to chair meetings, moderate workshops, sponsor others, work around the house, and provide in-kind contributions.

Family Support Program
The Family Support program serves as a community for friends, loved ones, and family members of individuals with alcoholism to learn about the disease of alcoholism, understand how to support an alcoholic, and experience an improved quality of life regardless of the alcoholic’s recovery.
