The LID Life Community

A nonprofit organization

Since its inception, the dedicated volunteers in this group have contacted over 1,000 manufacturers and restaurants in four countries to find "safe" food for these patients to eat while on this diet and maintain a living document of these foods. They have also distributed information to over 50 doctors treating thyroid conditions - all to make this process easier for those who must endure it. Thousands of volunteer hours have been spent not only on this research, but the support provided via the group's social and digital channels.

Our Needs

Each year, we have representation at conferences (e.g. American Thyroid Association) and we need financial support to continue to offer printed educational material and website upkeep to build our brand awareness with medical professionals across the country and world to ensure that as many patients going through this diet have access to the information we research.

Mission

The LID Life Community provides individualized support and education on how to successfully navigate the low iodine diet (LID) to increase the efficacy of radiation (RAI). The group was formed in 2015 to serve a growing population of adults, as well as parents of children who have to go on a highly specialized low iodine diet for treatment of various thyroid conditions and cancers. Those 26 volunteers from the USA, the UK, Canada and Australia offer support via a private Facebook group, other social channels and a web site that these patients often don't get from their providers. Many are given a very short list of food that is allowed on the diet, simply due to lack of research. The LID Life Community admin team continually researches food safe for consumption on this diet and makes it much more bearable in a time that is for many one of the most difficult they will face.
