Our Challenge
Income is based on avg. DHA household.
Tuition is avg. for a TX 4-year university with student residing at home.
DHA serves nearly 20,000 families across North Texas who face serious economic challenges. Nearly half of those households have children under 18 years old, 95% of which are single-parent households.
The average annual income for a DHA family is $17,988, which is just 21% of the local area median income.1
When housing affordability is already a challenge, paying for college tuition can seem impossible. The average college tuition for a 4-year undergraduate school can range from $15,700 to $58,600 per year.2
When a family’s income cannot support the next generation’s education required to earn a livable wage, there begins a cycle of poverty.
Our Solution
We believe that education is a key to ending poverty and that everyone deserves an opportunity to pursue a higher education and lifelong learning.
We help the families we serve rise to their full potential through continuous learning, job training and education by providing scholarships, financial assistance, mentorship and learning opportunities for those preparing to enter college, technical school, vocational school or want to learn a new skill.
Our vision is to invest in education and learning, so people can access the resources they need to pursue better careers and improve their quality of life – no matter what stage of life they’re in.When a family’s income cannot support the next generation’s education required to earn a livable wage, there begins a cycle of poverty.
Why We Need Your Help
DHA is a federally funded organization that provides housing assistance to over 55,000 people across North Texas. Our goal is to help as many families find affordable housing in high-opportunity neighborhoods, and that is what our federal dollars go to support.
But housing is not the only solution our families need to become self-sufficient, moving away from government assistance. We created Opportunity Rising so we could raise non-federal funds and support our families beyond housing assistance.
