SAVE MURPHY'S HISTORIC CEMETERIES

The Murphy Historical Society is guardian to the Decatur-Maxwell-Murphy, Murphy Family, and Herring-Hogge cemeteries located in Murphy, TX.  Please visit our website to learn more about each of these Texas Historic cemeteries.

Your generous donations are crucial in helping us meet the nearly $10,000/year in maintenance costs associated with:

  • Repair and cleaning of headstones
  • Monthly mowing and edging
  • Weed control
  • Tree trimming and storm damage cleanup

In addition to monetary donations and grants we receive, volunteers, scouts, and student organizations are requested to help care for the cemeteries in other beautification projects and small clean-up details.

About Us

The Murphy Historical Society was organized in 2011 with only five members. Our current membership is 25 members in a small community of 20,612 citizens. We have a collection of artifacts, historical books, photographs, textiles, and scrapbooks. We are currently placing items from our collection in 3 display cases located inside the entrance of Murphy City Hall. We have run out of storage space for our collection and are also seeking a new storage location.

Membership and Volunteers - The Murphy Historical Society accepts guests, new members and donations to assist with preserving and documenting our local history. We also apply to the Community Development Board and Collin County Historical Commission for grants. Membership is open to the general public and anyone who enjoys history. Dues are collected for general funds associated with running the organization.

Mission

The purpose of the Murphy Historical Society is to inspire and promote community interest in and appreciation for the history of MURPHY, TEXAS, and to preserve Murphy's rich history and document the present for the future. To this end, we identify, select, gather, preserve, maintain, catalog and make accessible to the public, historical documents and significant memorabilia from Murphy and towns in Collin County.
