About the Dallas Firefighter's Museum

Since 1907, historic Fire Station No. 5 has stood as a guardian of the Fair Park neighborhood. In 1975, it found new life as the Dallas Firefighter’s Museum, a place where history, heroism, and education come together. Today, retired firefighters serve as passionate docents, guiding visitors through the legacy of Dallas Fire-Rescue while championing fire prevention, safety, and all-hazards life safety education.

The Museum honors the courage and sacrifice of Dallas’s first responders through restored vintage apparatus, firefighting tools, memorabilia, and powerful photographs that pay tribute to fallen heroes. But we’re not just preserving history — we’re using it to build a safer future.

Now in Phase II of its Capital Campaign, the Museum is undergoing a major interior transformation to expand and modernize its educational impact. At the heart of this effort is a new Education Center, designed to deliver immersive, hands-on learning experiences that meet the needs of today’s children and families. Through interactive exhibits, safety demonstrations, and real-world hazard scenarios, this new space will teach life-saving skills in engaging and age-appropriate ways.

With your support, the Dallas Firefighter’s Museum is not only preserving the past — it’s shaping a future where every child and family is better prepared, better protected, and more resilient.

Mission

The mission of the Dallas Firefighters Museum is to collect, preserve, and present the history and cultural heritage of the fire service of Dallas and to provide fire prevention and safety education to the public, especially children.

Needs

Help Us Ignite the Future of Fire and Life Safety Education in Dallas

The Dallas Firefighter's Museum stands as a living tribute to the bravery, sacrifice, and service of our city’s firefighters. Now, with Capital Campaign Phase II underway, we have a bold vision: to transform the museum’s historic interior into a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that will inspire and educate generations to come.

This next phase is more than a renovation — it’s a reimagining. By modernizing the interior layout, we are building the foundation for expanded educational outreach, opening our doors wider than ever to thousands of school children and families each year.

At the heart of this transformation is a new Educational Center, created in partnership with Dallas Fire-Rescue educators. Designed to be immersive and interactive, the center will teach children critical lessons in fire prevention, protection, and all-hazards life safety — knowledge that can save lives and build safer communities.

Key features will include:

* A life-sized replica of a historic firehouse room, complete with beds and fire poles, showing how early firefighters lived and served.

* Antique firefighting equipment and hands-on exhibits that make learning tangible and memorable.

* An interactive theatre for engaging safety demonstrations and educational programming.

* Real-life scenarios covering fire safety, choking and suffocation hazards, trips and falls, and vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle safety.

This is an opportunity to honor our past while shaping the future — to preserve the legacy of Dallas’s firefighting heroes while equipping our children with the knowledge and tools to stay safe in everyday life.

We cannot do it without you.

Your gift to the Dallas Firefighter Museum’s Capital Campaign will directly support the creation of this vital educational space and ensure that our history and life-saving lessons continue to resonate for generations.
