Our Library, Our Future
Commerce Public Library has always been a community effort.
As a nonprofit public library, our funding comes from a combination of public support, earned revenue, grants, and donations. Historically, roughly one-third of our annual revenue has come from the City of Commerce, one-third from passport services, and one-third from grants and donations.
We are grateful for the City’s continued partnership and its recent investment in renovations to our historic building, including a new ADA-accessible entrance. At the same time, the City has not been in a position to increase its annual operating support for more than a decade, and passport income is no longer a dependable source of library revenue.
That makes community support more important than ever.
Now we have an extraordinary opportunity. An anonymous donor has committed $25,000 toward library improvements, including lighting, a new digital sign, and security camera upgrades.
From August 27 through September 17, we are asking our community to help us raise another $25,000 and unlock the full match.
Funds raised by the community will give the library greater flexibility to respond to changing needs and support the programs, collections, technology, services, and day-to-day work that keep our library strong.
Together, we can turn $25,000 in community giving into $50,000 in support for Commerce Public Library.

Mission
The mission of the Commerce Public Library is to serve the community by providing a downtown public
space with collected and curated resources and materials that promote community engagement through
reading and lifelong learning, foster connections with other literacy and education stakeholders, and
support the preservation of community history.
Needs
Commerce Public Library has served as a center for learning, connection, and opportunity for generations. Today, we are investing in the next chapter of that service while caring for our historic 1917 building and responding to the changing needs of our community.
The library’s funding has traditionally come from a combination of City support, earned revenue, grants, and donations. We are grateful for the City of Commerce’s continued partnership and recent investment in renovations and accessibility improvements. However, annual City operating support has remained relatively steady for many years, while passport income - once a dependable source of library revenue - can no longer be relied upon in the same way. Community support is therefore more important than ever.
An anonymous donor has committed $25,000 toward improvements that will make the library brighter, safer, and better connected to the community. Planned projects include improved interior lighting, new signage to help residents learn about library programs and services, and security camera upgrades. Funds raised by the community will also give the library flexibility to support changing needs, including programs, collections, technology, literacy services, and the day-to-day work that keeps the library strong.
From August 27 through September 17, every gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000. With the community’s help, this opportunity can generate $50,000 in support for Commerce Public Library - strengthening our library today while helping prepare it for the future.

Commerce Public Library believes that everyone deserves access to information, technology, learning opportunities, and a welcoming place to belong. We serve people of all ages, incomes, backgrounds, cultures, abilities, and levels of education throughout Commerce and the surrounding area.
As a nonprofit public library, we provide free access to books, computers, internet service, educational programs, and community resources. These services are especially important for residents who may not have reliable internet, technology, transportation, educational opportunities, or other resources available at home. Through literacy programs, bilingual learning opportunities, accessible facilities, public technology, family activities, and partnerships with local organizations, we work to reduce barriers and help more people participate fully in community life.
Equity means recognizing that different people face different challenges and may need different kinds of support. We are committed to listening to our community, improving accessibility, and using our resources thoughtfully so that every person who enters the library feels welcomed, respected, and able to learn, connect, and grow.
