WHHS Cougar Pride Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The WHHS Cougar Pride Foundation is an all-volunteer group of Western Hills High School alumni, staff and friends (currently 2000 members strong) who are working to change the trajectory of current students facing issues related to poverty and/or homelessness by filling gaps the school cannot cover, and which were being covered personally by teachers and coaches. The school, which was historically middle- to upper-middle class is now a Title I school with over 70% of the student population qualifying for free and reduced lunches. We run a food pantry, toiletry, school supply and clothing closet where counselors and staff members can send students who are in need. We also provide hot meals and to-go meals for athletes and students participating in extra-curricular activities so that they are able to have a meal before their competitions, as well as snacks for counselors and on-site police officers to distribute as needed. We provided 450 bags of food for needy students to take home during Christmas breaks so that they would have food while they weren't in school, and provided 305 bags of food for students to take home during Spring Break.
