Who We Are:
The Survivors Oasis, formerly The Usual Artspects, helps women heal from sexual and physical violence through expressive arts, peer support, mental health resources, and community.
Since 2022, we have served more than 450 survivors through trauma-informed programs designed to create safe spaces for healing, connection, and creative expression.
Our newest chapter expands that support beyond the walls of our in-person programs. Through our private virtual community, survivors can access weekly peer-led support groups, creative writing workshops, monthly expressive arts workshops, guest speakers, educational resources, and connection with other survivors — wherever they are.
Our programs have demonstrated up to a 72% reduction in symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. At The Survivors Oasis, we believe survivors deserve more than resources in a moment of crisis. They deserve continued support, community, and a safe place to heal.
Why We're Needed:
1 in 2 women in the United States will experience some form of sexual assault in their lifetime.
1 in 3 women have experienced domestic violence.
1 in 6 women are the victims of rape or attempted rape.
94% of female rape victims experience symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
33% of female rape survivors contemplate suicide.
Giving Activity
Mission
Our mission is to help heal and empower female survivors of physical violence and sexual abuse. We provide Outreach, Art, Support, Impact, and Safety for survivors. Through a safe supportive environment, we provide expressive programs, group therapy, community support groups, education awareness, and resources for survivors.
Needs
Funding from North Texas Giving Day will help The Survivors Oasis expand access to our survivor programs and private virtual community, including peer-led support groups, creative writing and expressive arts workshops, mental health resources, guest speakers, scholarships, and continued outreach to survivors. Every gift helps us create more opportunities for women to heal, connect, and know they do not have to navigate life after trauma alone.
