A nonprofit organization

100% complete

$4,288 Goal

We are a youth-founded and minority woman-founded 501c3 grassroots community service organization that serves our unsheltered communities as well as our marginalized and vulnerable populations and fills in the gaps for those in need. We currently have 4 core programs:

1. Neighbor Outreach: to provide mindful and direct assistance to those experiencing homelessness; We are currently serving about 100 each week from Dallas to Collin County and all over DFW providing nutritionally complete hot meals, shelf-stable meals, hygiene products, clothing, and other basic needs.

2. Rainy Day Program: to fill in the gaps for small but urgent needs such as an overdue utility bill, groceries, an emergency car repair, etc.

3. Holiday Outreach: to bring light into the holiday season for children, seniors, and our unsheltered communities; This will be our 10th year of this initiative.

4. UMU Youth Academy: to bring equitable access to sports, arts, and music to underserved area youth

5. She Leads Workshops: this is our newest initiative to provide a platform for women to share knowledge and empower women through supported workshops that are free for the community. We hosted our first beginner women's fight workshop and have community CPR on the books for our next woman led community enrichment workshop.

Mission

Mission Statement

“If you never had to stand up to something – to get up, to be knocked down, and to get up again – life can walk over you wearing football cleats. But each time you do get up, you’re bigger, taller, finer, more beautiful, more kind, more understanding, more loving. Each time you get up, you’re more inclusive. More people can stand under your umbrella.”

– Maya Angelou

We believe that through struggles comes strength and responsibility. When we overcome those struggles, we come out stronger than before and it is that strength that gives us the umbrella we can then hold for others.

Needs

We are in need of general operating funds like basic car maintenance and transportation funds to be able to continue to collect donations and serve the community. We use personal vehicles for outreach and the wear and tear on our 2005 270K miles vehicle is significant. We are also fundraising for equipment needs to better serve our unsheltered neighbors such as storage bins and more hot boxes to keep foods temperature controlled, food containers, and other basic but necessary outreach equipment. Our Amazon Wishlist and Walmart SparkGoods registry also has essential needs such as socks, snacks, bath wipes, and other items that can bring a little hope and a lot of dignity to those experiencing homelessness. As a very small home based operation, we need your kindness so that we can continue to serve our community and maintain our free resource sharing program to not only assist those in our immediate area but also with boots-on-the-ground small nonprofits so that they can better serve their communities as well. We are a zero-overhead nonprofit that is 100% volunteer-based so that every cent goes directly towards outreach efforts. We understand that you can funnel your hard earned funds anywhere and we would love the opportunity to earn your support this North Texas Giving Day.

Equity Statement

We believe that our diversity gives us strength and inclusivity empowers our community. We serve anyone in need with dignity and without judgement.
