Texas Civil Rights Project

A nonprofit organization

Our programs:
Voting Rights
The right to vote is fundamental. Yet, Texas voters face obstacle after obstacle to participate in the democratic process. Millions of eligible voters remain shut-out of the democratic process, a disparate number of whom are young, poor, and people of color. Through a mix of litigation and advocacy, TCRP is turning the tide on the state's abysmal voting rights record by removing barriers to voter registration and the ballot box, supporting grassroots voter mobilization efforts, and opposing voter suppression and intimidation.

Criminal Injustice Program
Texas locks up more people than all the other states combined. To dismantle the drivers of mass incarceration and mass entanglement with the criminal system, we challenge the entire pipeline of disparate criminalization: unfair policing, prosecution and judicial process, probation and parole, and for-profit practices. Together with our partners, we hold stakeholders accountable to Texas communities in and out of the courtroom.

Racial & Economic Justice
With an office in the Rio Grande Valley, TCRP has been dedicated to defending the rights of immigrant and borderland communities for nearly 30 years. Working closely with community partners and allies, and with unique access to the courts in McAllen, our team is on the front lines, pushing back against the current onslaught of inhumane policies, which violate basic human and civil rights law and are designed to denigrate and inflict harm on individuals, families, and border communities.

Mission

We are Texas lawyers for Texas communities, boldly serving the movement for equality and justice in and out of the courts.
