St. Mary of Carmel has been serving the West Dallas community for 80 years. More than 65% of the adults in West Dallas have less than a 12th grade education. We strive to break this cycle of education and economic poverty in our community. The children of our community need the strong educational foundation St. Mary of Carmel can provide placing them on the path to success. We have two major goals for all of our students: College and Heaven. This means that as we prepare our students for a rigorous academic career, we also teach them to live lives of virtue.
Our Needs
We believe that economic status should not determine a child's access to a quality, Catholic education and strive to provide for all students in our neighborhood. At St. Mary of Carmel, we currently serve 142 students. Approximately 62% of our students qualify for the National Free and Reduced Lunch program and 92% percent of our students receive financial assistance. Due to the low cost of tuition and high number of students receiving financial assistance, St. Mary of Carmel operates under many budgetary constraints.
Some of our top priority needs currently are:
-Additional funds for tuition assistance
-Support for salaries to retain the best teachers
-Basic upgrades to facilities and beautification including a new electronic reader board (minimum cost $50,000)
-Online software subscriptions to support flexible learning
