We serve a vulnerable community of individuals and families who are low-income, living with mental, physical, or medical disabilities, and many of whom have experienced homelessness. As the largest provider of permanent supportive housing in Tarrant County, Samaritan House offers not only safe and stable housing but also a full range of supportive services. These include case management, nutrition support, medical transportation, substance use counseling, educational tutoring, workforce readiness, and activities that foster healthy community and connection.
Your gift on North Texas Giving Day helps ensure these vital services continue—providing housing, stability, and hope to our neighbors most in need.

The Problem: Housing Instability, Housing Unaffordability, Low Affordable Housing Inventory
There is a strong correlation between homelessness and housing affordability. Housing insecurity is the lack of security in an individual’s shelter that is the result of high housing costs relative to income, physical or mental illness, and substance abuse. Housing instability is widely acknowledged as a key social determinant of health and wellness.
NATIONALLY: According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition(NLIH), as of 2022 a full-time worker needs to earn an hourly wage of $25.82 on average to afford a modest two-bedroom rental unit in the U.S.
In Tarrant County, the burden is higher. The Fort Worth -Arlington area is the 5th most expensive area in the State for Housing Wage with 38% of its population being renters. The Fair Market Rent for a two-bedroom apartment is higher than the state requiring an annual income of $50,760 to afford it!
The Plan : Samaritan House to increase its impact
Samaritan House is working tirelessly to acquire additional permanent supportive housing in Tarrant County to satisfy the need for the unhoused. With 30 + years of providing housing Samaritan House will continue to provide housing to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Support from you will help Samaritan House assess community unmet needs for affordable and supportive housing, prepare to add housing capacity, increase community awareness of supportive housing issues and support our residents living with us today.
