By supporting Riverside Arts District you support the arts role in building healthy communities. And you understand that small businesses are integral to creating economic vitality in these historically significant Fort Worth neighborhoods.
Riverside Arts District was founded in 2012 when neighbors gathered in a vacant building on Race Street to discuss the future of the Six Points Urban Village, a small area of Riverside centered around the Race Street corridor between Sylvania Avenue and Riverside Drive. The area had been defined by the City of Fort Worth as an area in need of a plan for urban economic development and revitalization.
With the masterplan as a foundation, community members and others from throughout the city pitched in to begin efforts to bring positive change to the area. Using the the principles of Creative Placemaking and Tactical (DYI) Urbanism, hard work and perseverance branded the area as a destination full of pop ups, markets, and over time, locally owned small businesses. Riverside Arts District, a community driven organization, began its journey to “improve the qualities of public spaces and the lives of the people who use them.”
The vision of Riverside Arts District is to support and promote continued economic development of Race Street and adjoining commercial corridors for the purpose of growing and sustaining economic vitality in the area. Economic vitality, as described by Main Street America, a movement to revitalize commercial corridors in order to “create spaces of shared property, equal access to opportunity and inclusive engagement” describes economic vitality as a “proactive collaborative approach to building and growing a diverse economic base through smart new investment, cultivating a robust ecosystem for small businesses, focusing on the unique assets of your community, and fostering equity and inclusion to create an environment to help build local wealth.”
The mission of Riverside Arts District is to promote and support economic vitality
on Race Street and surrounding commercial corridors in Riverside through arts and culture,
and placemaking.
