North Texas is growing, but economic opportunity remains out of reach for too many residents. In Dallas County, a single adult with no children must earn $23.31 per hour - about $48,489 annually - to meet basic needs. For one adult supporting one child, the living wage rises to $37.90 per hour, or $78,832 annually. These figures reflect what it takes to cover necessities, not financial comfort or long-term wealth building.

Housing pressures make the gap even harder to close. Half of Dallas renter households are cost burdened, spending more than 30% of their gross income on housing. Among households earning 50% or less of area median income, Dallas faces a shortage of approximately 46,000 affordable rental units, with only 60 affordable units available for every 100 households. For people experiencing unemployment, homelessness, underemployment, career disruption, or limited access to training, one setback can quickly become a long-term barrier.

ReBirth Empowerment Education (REE) helps adults move forward. We provide workforce development and support services that connect people to career pathways, renewed confidence, and greater economic mobility. Our participants range from individuals experiencing homelessness to working professionals seeking to reskill, upskill, or advance in their current careers.

Through partnerships such as Grow with Google, REE distributes donated scholarships for Google Career Certificates. Your North Texas Giving Day contribution supports the people and infrastructure that turn access to training into progress: weekly career-readiness workshops, digital-skills and financial-education programming, individual career coaching, case management, job-search assistance, and ongoing participant engagement.

Together, these services help participants identify a realistic career direction, strengthen their resumes and interview skills, address barriers, complete industry-recognized training, and pursue employment or advancement opportunities. The impact reaches beyond one participant. When someone increases their earning potential and stability, children, extended family members, employers, and the broader community can benefit.

Mark's Story: From Homelessness to Stability

Mark relocated from Chicago to Dallas with plans to live with family and find employment. When those plans did not work out, he experienced homelessness and began working to rebuild his life.

Mark attended one of REE's weekly resume and job-search workshops at a Dallas homeless shelter. Within one week, he secured a position with benefits at a major hotel chain, returning to the hospitality career path he had followed before losing his job in Chicago.

He continued participating in REE's financial education workshop and one-on-one coaching. Within four months, Mark was able to move into an apartment of his own.

Today, he is employed, stably housed, and moving forward with renewed independence. His journey demonstrates what is possible when determination is supported by practical skills, individualized guidance, and access to opportunity.
