McKinney Gifted &Talented Alliance

A nonprofit organization

MGTA is a not-for-profit parent group for families of gifted and high-ability children in the McKinney Independent School District. We strive to be effective advocates for our gifted and high-ability students and a valuable source of information and support for our parents, teachers, and administrators. Some highlights from MISD's GT program and MGTA in the past include:

*Interdisciplinary Study & Mentorship program for high school students
*engaging SCOPE summer scholars camps
*student achievement at the national MathCon
*award-winning middle school mock trial teams
*bringing the World Peace Game to MISD
*college visits for 7th grade students
*Texas Association of Gifted & Talented (TAGT) recognition of MISD secondary GT coordinator Karen Green as Texas GT Administrator of the Year (2017)
*advocacy for GT education in the development of the State Plan
*advocacy for continued state funding of GT education
*advocacy for twice-exceptional/2e students (gifted with a learning disability) in Texas special education reform
*supporting the establishment of the All Abilities Playground in McKinney, which MISD GT students helped design
*mystery theater group presentations to 4th & 5th grade GT students
*bringing an internationally-renowned psychologist to McKinney to speak to our parents & middle school students
*hosting Family Night events featuring experts, authors, and local businesses relevant to GT families

Our Needs

Parent & local community support is essential for our GT program to thrive! Contributions to the general fund of McKinney Gifted & Talented Alliance (MGTA) help pay for GT classroom supplies, professional development for GT teachers, GT events, student scholarships, and more. Donations to MGTA are also a great way to help fund GT Wish List items!

$500 - cost of sending 1 teacher to the TAGT GiftED conference for professional development
$550 - 1 LEGO EV3 robotics kit & expansion set for the ALPHA program
$25-$50 - Target/WalMart/Office Depot gift card for teacher supplies
$25-$100 Amazon gift card for sensory objects to support 2e students in the classroom

Mission

McKinney Gifted & Talented Alliance (MGTA) is the support group for the McKinney Independent School District's Gifted and Talented Program. We aspire to connect our members with the people, programs and information necessary to enhance awareness, effectiveness, support, and a sense of community in parenting and educating gifted and talented children.
