$35,000 Goal

Every victory starts with a heartbeat.

A heartbeat means life.  A heartbeat means hope.  A heartbeat means a second chance.  At Living for Zachary, a heartbeat is the first step to victory over sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).

Parent Heart Watch reports SCA is the leading cause of death on school campuses and the #1 killer of student athletes.  Once it strikes, every second counts - SCA currently carries a 90% death rate in victims.  For too many, help comes too late.

At Living for Zachary, we're seeking victory over SCA to save lives and give young hearts a second chance.  Every heartbeat has a story, and every young person deserves a bright and healthy future.  Will you join us in saving lives this North Texas Giving Day?

Since 2009, Living for Zachary has impacted more than 1.8 million people through a well-rounded, strategic approach to preventing and responding to sudden cardiac arrest. With your help, we can continue our work to make an even greater impact in the year ahead.

With an opponent like sudden cardiac arrest, it takes all of us to ensure every heart is heard and every community has access to life-saving resources before, during, and after cardiac emergencies strike.

"We discovered my daughter has WPW (Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome) because of this screening.  Thank you for what you are doing to give back." - Heart Screening Parent

The Impact Since 2009:

Your support will help make the following impact:

  • Provide youth heart screenings at no cost to young people to help detect abnormalities that may lead to SCA
  • Enable large-scale AED donations to youth-based organizations and school districts across Texas, which have the power to save lives when cardiac emergencies strike
  •  Certify the people who work with our children in CPR and AED use at no cost to them
  • Expand our new SuperHeart Program, bringing campus-wide change to prevention and response strategies for schools and youth-based organizations in North Texas
  • Provide scholarship support for students entering the field of cardiac sonography, so more hearts can be screened in the future

Mission

Living for Zachary's mission is to raise awareness and prevent sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in youth. The organization was founded in honor of Zachary Schrah, who was only 16 years old when he collapsed without warning during a high school football practice in Plano. Since its inception, Living for Zachary has impacted thousands of families and children across Texas through youth heart screenings, AED donations, CPR/AED certification classes, scholarships, and awareness events.
