Founded August 1, 1991, the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra is the largest arts group in Irving. The LCSO presents a season of eight subscription concerts annually at the Irving Arts Center under the baton of Music Director Robert Carter Austin. The ensemble's ninety-three professional musicians from 19 different nations are represented in the musician roster and this talent is complemented with internationally renowned featured soloists.
The LCSO's inaugural season, titled "Symphonic Fantasies", opened with a gala Pops concert featuring famed guitarist Chet Atkins. Over six hundred area concertgoers were in attendance, giving the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra the largest 1991 opening night audience of any Irving Arts group.
Titled "London is Calling", Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra's 2023-24 series will bring you masterworks by the many great composers who lived and worked in the city of London - Handel, Weber, Vaughn Williams, Lloyd Webber, and more. Highlights will include Elgar's "Enigma Variations" and Holst's "The Planets", plus dazzling performances by a distinguished roster of international guest soloists. As Samuel Johnson said, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life!"
The LCSO is currently seeking funds to continue presenting the highest quality orchestral performances to the North Texas region. The LCSO also seeks funding for support of our tuition free Lone Star Youth Orchestra and all additional educational programming supported by the organization.
The Lone Star Youth Orchestra (LSYO) provides young, advanced level instrumentalists in the Metroplex area the opportunity to supplement and enhance their music education through opportunities to learn symphonic literature and high quality orchestral and ensemble training. Membership, by audition, in the Lone Star Youth Orchestra is open to middle school and high school string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players.
For the last two years we have dealt with the devastating effects of the pandemic. Playing with a smaller number of musicians and an even smaller number of patrons in the audience. For our upcoming season we'll again play with our almost 100 strong group of professional musicians. To that end, we need additional funds to ensure an exciting season. We'll be joined by eight soloists that will play at each of our season concerts.
The symphony needs your support to bring the beauty of classical music to the citizens of Irving and to extend the educational programs we make available to the youth in our community.
The Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble dedicated to excellence in the performance of symphonic music and to the cultural enrichment of the dynamically growing Las Colinas corporate and residential communities, as well as to patrons throughout Irving and adjacent cities.
