Gift of Adoption - Texas Chapter

A nonprofit organization

Wyatt was born prematurely in late November 2021 to a birth mother who is not able to parent him and was placed into state custody right after his birth. Rebecca and Stephanie of Dallas received a call about Wyatt because Rebecca is a cousin to his birthmother and the state was looking to place him with a family member, if possible. The couple had not seriously considered adoption- mainly due to the costs involved, but as soon as they learned of Wyatt, knew they wanted him and said yes, immediately.

Rebecca and Stephanie needed some financial assistance to make this surprise adoption possible. A grant from Gift of Adoption Texas enabling them to adopt Wyatt in May 2022.

Rebecca and Stephanie shared, “Wyatt has multiple older biological siblings that have spent years cycling through the foster care system, moved throughout kinship and state placements, and lack a sense of permanency. Our adoption is a direct intervention to stop that cycle. We have a network of pediatric specialists to provide Wyatt the care he needs, support groups, friends, and family that have rallied behind our adoption and are committed to Wyatt's success. He will never doubt he is loved, honored, and meant to be a part of this family.”

Your gift during North Texas Giving Day will help children like Wyatt come home to their forever family in North Texas. We need your support to continue meeting their needs.

Each year, Gift of Adoption Texas receives requests from approximately 44 qualified families – representing a funding need of $192,270. The goal of the Texas Chapter’s all-volunteer board is to raise enough funds to help complete each of these adoptions but can currently only say yes to about 2/3.

As of January 2022, Gift of Adoption Texas has awarded $634,600 in adoption assistance grants across Texas to complete the adoptions of 200 children.

Mission

Gift of Adoption provides grants to complete the adoptions of vulnerable children - giving them permanent families and a chance to thrive.

Needs

Today, you can bring a vulnerable child one step closer to his or her forever family. When you donate, you're transforming the life of a child and giving him or her the love, dignity, and hope that comes from being part of a family. Gift of Adoption focuses on:

- preventing siblings from being separated

- prioritizing children with critical medical needs

- avoiding children aging out of orphanages

- preempting foster care

Your gift will make an immediate and profound impact in a child's life by helping his or her awaiting family complete the adoption process. No gift is too small. When you support Gift of Adoption, you open doors to education for children; support their social, emotional and physical development; promote the sense of love and security that all children deserve; and instill hope for their future.

The number of children without families has increased both internationally and in the U.S. Costs to adopt have also increased over the past ten years. Total expenses now range from $35,000 to $55,000 per adoption. In the U.S., more than 250,000 children have been placed in foster care in each of the last five reported years, with more than 100,000 children waiting to be adopted at any given time (Source: AFCARS).

Unadopted children often suffer poor life outcomes, including homelessness, lack of employment options and early pregnancies. Overseas, unadopted children have a dramatically increased propensity to become victims of crime, trafficking, substance abuse and suicide.

The good news is that as many as 25% of American families seriously consider adoption as a way to build their own families. Most cite cost as the primary barrier to moving forward. Gift of Adoption exits to reduce this financial hurdle.

Gift of Adoption Fund does not consider an applicant's marital status, gender, race, creed, national origin, religion, age, or sexual orientation when reviewing applications.
