    Ferguson Road Initiative is a backbone organization that effectively

ADVOCATES
FRI spent 2023 advocating for the White Rock Hills Recreation Center to be placed on the 2024 Dallas Bond Program. 
The CENTER was approved by City Council and Dallas voters. FRI will continue to 
advocate for the CENTER to receive first round tranche funding.

COMMUNICATES

FRI communicates through our robust communication network that includes: 
social media (FB and IG), monthly digital newsflash, 
Annual FRIdays news magazine mailed to 18,000 households, Resource Directory, 
Semi-annual Community Connection Townhall meetings.

CONNECTS 

 FRI connects with community stakeholders and organizations that work 
together to make a collective impact to improve the quality of life 
for all who live in Far East Dallas.

LEADS

FRI leads by identifying and mobilizing leadership within the Far East Dallas community. 
We teach and empower ordinary people how to accomplish extraordinary things.


Ferguson Road Initiative is continuing to work to. . .

Build capacity

• Connection with our local nonprofit and faith community partners to help them accelerate on their missions and ensure

programs and services make a greater impact in the areas of healthcare, food insecurity, rental/financial assistance, or workforce development.

• Connection with local developers to provide quality mixed income housing and retail in our community.

• Coordinate, manage, and promote annual volunteer events like Operation Beautification Litter Cleanup, Blood Drives, Tree Plantings,

and neighborhood improvements coordinated with the City

• Provide opportunities for civil discourse and community engagement allowing community members self-agency to create the community they want.

• Expand communication efforts across all platforms to engage, connect, and serve as a resource to the Far East Dallas community

Crime Prevention/Public Safety

• Continue to create, manage, and monitor Crime Task forces such as the Lower Ferguson Road and Bucker/Peavy Crime Task Forces

• Work closely with Dallas Police Department to monitor, track and report crime trends

• Manage and communicate with area neighborhood CrimeWatches and Volunteer-In-Patrol programs.

• Implement resources to reduce crime and increase public safety in Far East Dallas

• Monitor the progress of the City’s Ferguson Road Traffic Calming Study to ensure vehicular and pedestrian safety.

• Provide and participate in programs, events, and workshops to increase public safety.

Project Development for the White Rock Hills Recreation CENTER 

• Secure first round tranche funding ($2M) for the city for the CENTER to create design and construction documents, May 2024-May 2026

• Support the creation, implementation, and analysis of a community-wide survey across all constituencies to determine program development for the CENTER, May 2024-May 2026.

• Serve on the Request for Proposals (RFP) panel representing the community to determine the contract for the architectural design and construction documents, May 2024-May 2026.

• Launch process to identify and secure program partners who meet the needs of the FRI community based on survey information, May 2024-May 2026.

• Review and analyze architectural plans, May 2026-May 2027

• Secure the second round of funding ($16.1M) for the CENTER, its construction, May 2026-May 2027.

• Ensure the form of the CENTER follows its function, Ongoing.

Establish a Public Improvement District

• Research the feasibility of applying to become a Public Improvement District that will provide supplemental assessments dollars for services related to crime prevention, public safety, beautification, and community cohesion.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance/Financial Literacy

• Provide free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Financial Literacy programs to low-income families earning $60,000 or less

• Avoid low-income families from being victimized by predatory lenders and increases tax return accuracy and streamlines the tax filing process.

The mission of FRI is to engage and empower a community of advocates to advance a safe, beautiful, prosperous and proud Far East Dallas.

The Ferguson Road Initiative (FRI) serves an economically and ethnically diverse community in Far East Dallas. We are aware of the inequities and structural deficiencies that exist in our society. That is why, for more than 25 years, FRI has worked to foster a community that is just, sustainable, and equitable for all, not just a privileged few, who call this area home. We are proud of the work we do in support of racial diversity, equity, and inclusion and will continue to listen, advocate, engage, and respect the people we serve.
