Making a Difference Together: Support Eastside Ministries

Located in East Fort Worth at 5929 E Lancaster Ave, Eastside Ministries believes in addressing the basic needs of families so they can focus on overcoming more complex challenges like securing steady employment, providing education for their children, and finding a safe place to live. Our mission is to support families by providing essential food and clothing to assist them in their time of need.

Our Impact in 2024:

  • 7000 Households were served, reaching over 30,000  individuals.
  • More than 6000 sack lunches  were distributed to those experiencing homelessness.
  • Food, clothing, hygiene items, and household goods valued at over $4 million.
  • Average value of services provided: $600 per family per month.

Last year Eastside Ministries completed a three year grant provided through the generosity of Texas Health Resources. During this three year period we collaborated with Churches , Non- profits and other Community organizations  bringing services to some of the  poorest zip codes of Fort Worth to create community events.  These events allowed us to bring food, clothing and resources such as free phones and tablets, low cost health insurance, information from the Fort Worth Health Department, vaccinations, blood pressure  and diabetes checks to our neighbors  in Fort Worth.

Thanks to our grant from THR, ESM has a new refrigerated truck.  Branded with our Logo, we are able to continue our almost 40 year long partnership with Tarrant Area Food Bank, picking up food from local TAFB Partner stores: Wal-Mart, Aldi,  Tom Thumb, Kroger and Sam’s stores.

With the support of these local Churches: All People’s Unitarian Universalist Church, St. Rita Catholic Community, Meadowbrook/ Poly United Methodist Church, St. Matthew UMC, Bethel Baptist Church, St. Luke’s in the Meadow Episcopal, McMillan UMC, New Vicorious Baptist Church, The Ramp Church, San Miguel AnglicanChurch, Love Sanctuary and dedicated individual donors, we have a projected budget of $272,000 for 2025.

How You Can Help:

  1. Financial Contributions: Your donations are essential to sustain and expand our services. Every dollar helps us continue to provide critical support to families in need, salaries for our staff,  and manage necessary maintenance and repairs to our facilities

  2. Volunteers: We welcome volunteers at our site to assist us in a variety of tasks, from sorting, tagging and hanging donated clothing,  stocking shelves in the food pantry preparing food boxes and making up sack lunches for daily distribution.

  3. We are especially interested in bi-lingual English/Spanish speakers to help  assist our clients. Your time and effort are invaluable in helping us achieve our mission.

  4. We accept donations of Non-Perishable Food Items, hygiene products, clean clothing for all family members, school supplies, paper goods, clean household goods.

Mission

Eastside Ministries provides hope and compassion to needy persons and families by providing effective and efficient distribution of food, clothing, and other resources when available.

Needs

WATER IS LIFE Right now ESM is providing approximately 80 sack lunches each day. Mary Person, our expert Volunteer who supervises the sack lunch program has been able to purchase water at Sam’s, a case of water (40 bottles) for $3.00. We use about 6 cases a week.

Can you contribute: $20 for water for 1 week? $100 for a month?

or $1,200 for a year of providing clean drinking water to the thirsty?

(Answering ’ question: “When did we see you hungry and thirsty?”)

GET YOUR MOTOR RUNNING Rising early Monday-Friday, Von Williams, our driver, picks up food (produce, canned goods, dairy, meat, frozen foods, fruit, bread) from neighborhood grocery stores (Wal-Mart, Tom Thumb, Aldi, Kroger, Albertsons) that participate in the Tarrant Area Food Bank Partner Stores Program. Back at Eastside, Von, unloads the truck, weighs, and stocks the food for the next step in feeding hungry families on the Eastside. Cost to keep the truck running for a month is approximately $250 for diesel, and $300 for insurance.

Can you contribute $550 to pay for the use of the truck for one month?

Or $6,600, for a year?

Laughter in Store…Porchia Barber, Pantry Manager, entertains while working with volunteers, to box up the donated food, preparing a nutritious mix of

fresh & frozen food to hand out to our neighbors in Fort Worth living with food insecurity. Can you help? Priceless

$$$The value of each box varies box to box & week to week.

Rodney Jackson, Business and Office Manager, estimates that the monthly cost of running the truck, provides a benefit of 10 x that amount in healthy food we recover for families. Decreasing food waste and providing foods that workers on a minimum wage would not be able to afford are added benefits.

SALARIES The day-to -day operation of Eastside Ministries is only possible through the dedication and hard work of our 5-person paid staff.

(Miss Dorothy Ross, Clothing Closet Manager, pictured above). Due to our current financial circumstances we are only able to employ our staff part-time. Tightening our belts this year, our monthly expenditure on salaries is approximately $12,000.

Can you become a monthly sustaining donor, contributing any amount large or small to help do the work of serving your neighbors in need on the eastside ? Please support Eastside Ministries and make a one time donation or monthly recurring donation on North Texas Giving Day!
