Making a Difference Together: Support Eastside Ministries
Located in East Fort Worth at 5929 E Lancaster Ave, Eastside Ministries (ESM) believes in addressing the basic needs of families so they can focus on overcoming more complex challenges like finding a safe place to live, securing steady employment, and providing education for their children. Our mission is to support families by providing essential food and clothing to assist them in their time of need.
Our Impact in 2025:
Eastside Ministries mission continues to center on meeting immediate needs with dignity while helping individuals and families maintain stability. Seasonal programs, including Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance, extend our mission during these times of the year when household budgets are often strained.
We continue to partner with other organizations to provide additional services (for example: low-cost health insurance, free phones, and tablets) and to offer clients referrals to other social services available in our community. The majority of individuals and families we serve reside in East Fort Worth, but we do not deny assistance to anyone as long as we have the means.
With support from area churches such as All People’s Unitarian Universalist Church, St. Rita Catholic Community, Meadowbrook/ Poly United Methodist Church, St. Matthew UMC, Bethel Baptist Church, St. Luke’s in the Meadow Episcopal, McMillan UMC, New Victorious Baptist Church, The Ramp Church, San Miguel Anglican Church, Love Sanctuary and dedicated individual donors, we can continue our mission this upcoming year.
How You Can Help:
Financial Contributions: Your donations are essential to sustain and expand our services. Every dollar helps us continue to provide critical support to families in need, salaries for our staff, and manage necessary maintenance and repairs to our facilities. Earlier this year, we faced an unexpected plumbing repair in our more than 70-year-old old building, costing over $30,000.
Volunteers: We welcome volunteers at our site to assist us in a variety of tasks, from sorting, tagging and hanging donated clothing, stocking shelves in the food pantry, preparing food boxes, and making up sack lunches for daily distribution.
We are especially interested in bi-lingual English/Spanish speakers to help assist assist our clients. Your time and effort are invaluable in helping us achieve our mission.
We accept donations of Non-Perishable Food Items, hygiene products, clean clothing for all family members, school supplies, paper goods, and clean household goods.

Eastside Ministries provides hope and compassion to needy persons and families by providing effective and efficient distribution of food, clothing, and other resources when available.
WATER IS LIFE Right now ESM is providing approximately 80 sack lunches each day. Mary Person, our expert Volunteer who supervises the sack lunch program has been able to purchase water at Sam’s. A case of water (40 bottles) costs $4.98 a case. We use about 6 cases a week.
Can you contribute $20 for water for 1 week, or $120 a month or $1440 for a year providing clean drinking water for those who are thirsty.
GET YOUR MOTOR RUNNING. Rising early Monday-Friday, Phillip Few, our driver, picks up food (produce, canned goods, dairy, meat, frozen foods, fruit, bread) from neighborhood grocery stores: Tom Thumb, Wal-Mart, Aldi, Kroger, and Albertsons, all part of the Tarrant Area Food Bank Partner Stores Program. When food arrives at ESM, the truck is unloaded, food is weighed and stocked, for the next step in feeding the hungry on the Eastside. As all drivers know, the price of gasoline has risen drastically, and the cost to keep the truck running for a month is approximately $500 for diesel fuel, and $345 for insurance.
Can you contribute $900 to pay for the use of the truck for one month or $10,800 for one year?
Laughter in Store. Porchia Barber, Pantry Manager, loves her work and her co-workers. Together, they box up the donated food, preparing a nutritious mix of fresh & frozen food to hand out to our neighbors in Fort Worth living with food insecurity.
Rodney Jackson, Business and Office Manager, says that ESM recovers up to 10 times the value of our monthly transportation costs in healthy food for individuals and families facing food insecurity provided through our partnership with Tarrant Area Food Bank partner stores. It reduces food waste by redirecting food from local grocery stores to neighbors who might otherwise be unable to afford these nutritious items.
The Clothing Closet at Eastside is stocked with Donation of shoes and clothing from members of our partner churches and other neighbors in the area. Miss Dorothy Ross has managed the clothing area and provided a steady and friendly presence in that position to both donors and clients alike for more than 9 years.
Alvina Blankinship-Smith, provides Bi-lingual translation for those who have found their way to our doors and our shores. She works primarily with clients in the clothing area but serves wherever she is needed on any given day.
Salaries. . . The day-to-day operation of ESM is only possible through the dedication and hard work of our 5-person paid staff.
Due to our current financial circumstance, we are only able to employ our staff part-time. As we continue to tighten our belts this year, our monthly expenditure on salaries is approximately $12,000.
