We provide women with basic essentials
Shoeboxes include much-needed personal items like soap, shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste, allowing women to take care of their personal hygiene and to feel more confident in a time of great personal turmoil.
We gift women with special treats
The little luxuries we provide such as warm fuzzy socks, a beautiful journal, and high quality beauty products, delivers a rare and invaluable message to a woman who finds herself in a shelter that she remains worthy of nice things and deserves to feel special.
We facilitate messages of solidarity and support
Our Shoeboxes come with a card or note from the donor, providing the women we serve with a meaningful and compassionate message from someone in her very own community. A Shoebox can be a rare and powerful reminder to a woman that she is not alone and that there are people who truly care.
Our mission is to uplift and empower women who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness through in-kind support, education and community participation.
There is more than one way you can provide hope and encouragement to a Dallas woman experiencing homelessness.
By making a donation, 100% of your gift will be used to purchase a gift box filled with treats, hope and good wishes for a woman in our community.
We are also looking for individuals or groups to hold drives for our annual holiday event. It’s a great way to get together with coworkers, friends or neighbors and make an immediate difference in your community!
Drives can take many forms:
Collect gift filled shoeboxes
Collect items for shoeboxes
Collect money for the purchase of items for shoeboxes
We continually strive to promote equity and inclusion through our gift drives. Though our primary focus is on working with local shelters, we deliver gifts and other in-kind donations to any community service agency that serves women who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. This includes, but is not limited to:
Shelters serving families; individuals who identify as women, transgender or non-binary; seniors; youth; refugees; adults living with disabilities; pregnant and parenting youth; and more
Immigrant, refugee & newcomer welcome programs
Community health centers
Supportive & transitional housing programs
Employment support services
Mental health and addiction services
The Shoebox Project is, and has always been, an unaffiliated, non-religious charity that celebrates diversity, stands firmly against racism and challenges oppression in all its forms.
A note on gender: When we use the term women, we are using it in an inclusive manner and are mindful of the diverse and intersecting identities of the people who access our services.
