Recently Texas ranked 49th in providing services to people with IDD. It is expected that next year's rankings will drop to 50. The Fort Worth area needs this same type resource; an alternative to institutional living or homelessness, that includes a place for advocacy, recreational and social opportunities, along with affordable and attractive housing. The IDD Council of Tarrant County reports more than 100,000 people with IDD in Tarrant County, 85,000 of who receive no services and supports. There is about to be an avalanche of people with these special needs arriving into mid adulthood and the need for a great place to thrive, especially in the years following the death of their own parents/caretakers, is going to be an enormous problem. We intend to support post-secondary and lifelong learning as options, as well as transportation, meaningful jobs and careers in the community.
Our Needs
Our search is for land, processing funds and ultimately the housing cost at this time. A minimum of 10 acres in the SW section of DFW. After years of researching the country for the best of the best ideas, we have accepted a model of a wonderful development in Lakeland Florida (The villages of Noah's Landing) in addition to two facilities in south Texas. Tarrant County needs a service of this caliber and we're excited to offer it!
