Caring for Children so Families can Access Healthcare

Annie's Place is a testament to the power of a single vision, born from the depths of the founder's unwavering compassion. Today, it stands as a beacon of hope - a sanctuary where safe, quality childcare transcends the barriers that once kept parents from the life-saving healthcare they so desperately needed. Since 2014, this remarkable organization has blossomed into a shining example of nonprofit excellence, setting the gold standard for visionary thinking and unwavering dedication. Its journey embodies resilience and determination, mirroring the very struggles of the families it serves. To meet the needs of its clients, Annie’s Place offers the following programs.

Annie's Place at Parkland

In fall 2020 to respond to an overwhelming need, Annie’s Place on the Parkland Health campus opened. Annie’s Place provides high-quality, evidence-based educational childcare services, child play therapy and family resource services Primarily working with children ages 0 to 6, during summer and school breaks, Annie’s Place will help families with children up to age 12.

All services are provided at no cost. Because we understand how scary a health crisis can be, not only for the patient but especially for their children, programs at Annie’s Place are trauma-informed, evidence based and focused on ensuring children have a safe space to express their fears about their parents’ health journey.

Since 2020, Annie’s Place at Parkland has empowered 1,249 families to attend over 9,752 medical appointments and provided care for 1,557 unduplicated children over 59,470 service hours.

Annie's Place Weekend Care

Hospital workers also have access to the Center on weekends or in emergency situations that would otherwise prevent them from working. When the expansion is complete, they too will have all-week access.

Providing childcare to low- to middle-wage earning healthcare staff makes it possible for Annie’s Place to fully serve those who need medical care. If hospital employees cannot make their shifts because of a lack of affordable and available childcare, then patients cannot receive the quality care that they need. [AH1] Just as patients cannot focus on health and treatment if they are worried about their children, healthcare providers cannot provide the highest level of care if they are concerned about their child’s care.
