The Anna High School Scholarship Foundation

A nonprofit organization

In 2001, Jim Rountree, and his 4 siblings created the Anna High School Scholarship Foundation in honor of their mother. She was a single parent of 5 children in the 1950s, who through hard work and determination was able to influence and provide each child with the opportunity to go to college. It was her inspiration that led to the success of Jim and his siblings.

The foundation started with the idea of awarding students for not necessarily academic efforts but their ambition to continue their education and need for support to be able to go to achieve their dreams.  In 2001, we awarded one $400 scholarship. As of today, the Foundation has awarded over $158,000 in scholarships primarily through donations from Jim, his family and the Anna community. It was important to Jim that it was not just a one-year scholarship, but something that the recipient could earn for up to 4 years if their grades were above a 3.0 each year.  In 2009 the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce awarded the Foundation with the Non-Profit of the Year award.

With the passing of Jim in July 2020, his daughter, granddaughter and friends have continued to honor his legacy through this foundation. We have made a difference in so many students lives and look forward to expanding and continuing on this tradition.

Mission

The Anna High School Scholarship Foundation seeks to award students for their academic ambitions and provide financial support over four years of their post-secondary education.

Needs

The Anna High School Scholarship Foundation is in need of community support to continue awarding four year scholarships, totaling $8,000, to the students that are selected. As of Summer 2023, the annual cost for in-state tuition and fees a year for Texas Public Universities is $6,622, the foundation hopes to lift a portion of that burden off the students and families as the students are able to focus on their education and dreams.

Currently, the Foundation awards three four-year scholarships a year and partners with the Anna High School Alumni Association to award two one-time $1,000 scholarships to those not selected for the four-year scholarships. The board dreams of expanding the amount of funding and number of recipients to reflect the growing population of the Anna community.
