The Allen Garden Club (AGC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 1998 with the intention of helping educate people in Allen and the surrounding areas about gardening. We offer monthly programs on plants, trees, landscape design, perennials, houseplants, organic gardening, and much more. We also give back to our community by performing community service projects such as planting trees and gardens to beautify the city. All are welcome to our monthly meetings.

Our Needs

The Allen Garden Club now sponsors two scholarships for two Allen High School college bound seniors who plan on majoring in a horticulture related field. Our goal for our scholarships is $1,500.

We are funding a $250 teacher's grant for this school year to support a garden-related school project that will benefit many of our students in grades K-12 at one of the Allen ISD schools.

Our long-term goal is to install an educational garden at a public park to be used by classes and groups to learn about:
- the many native and adapted plants for our area,
- the common and botanical names of the plants,
- the various birds and pollinators that will visit the garden,
- and many other aspects related to plants and nature.

We are calling this new garden, Carol's Garden in memory of our long time member, Carol Hubmer. Carol enjoyed learning about plants that would grow in our area and other aspects of gardening and would read many gardening books and research gardening topics on the internet. Her beautiful garden was featured on two of our garden tours.

We are going to use the Junior Master Gardener program as part of the curriculum for Carol's Garden to help educate school groups. We would like to raise $4,000 to use towards the installation of this children's garden. Our biggest expense will be the irrigation which at this time we estimate being around $2,000. We have trees, plants, compost, mulch, stone, edging, signage, lumber, trellises, and more to purchase for this garden.

Our Partners

We partner with other organizations such as the Collin County Master Gardeners, Keep Allen Beautiful, Allen High School JROTC, Scout groups, and Allen High School horticulture students to get their help to install the various phases of this garden and other garden projects and to help with maintenance of the garden(s) in the future.

We support garden related community landscaping projects such landscaping around the historic buildings at the Allen Heritage Village, our Adopt-a-Spot garden at the Heritage Park playground and a children's garden at St. Jude Catholic Church. Our members volunteer many hours each year to help with garden installations and maintenance of these gardens.

The mission of the Allen Garden Club is to educate the people in Allen and surrounding areas about natural gardening practices and the benefits of gardening, encouraging people to conserve our natural resources and exemplify public spirit by participation in community service projects.

We have a goal of raising $2,000 this year to cover our scholarships, teacher's grant, and the needs for our public and educational garden spaces.

Equity Statement
