Since its inception in 1930, Lena Pope has identified the needs of local children and designed programs to fill the gap. Early on, residential homes were the necessary solution. As the community and social norms for addressing childhood needs changed, Lena Pope evolved to keep pace. Its programs have shifted from building homes for children in need, to building families in their homes.

Today, Lena Pope works to address some of the most pressing problems facing the community. Some families need access to counseling services to deal with trauma, substance abuse, or family issues. Other families need access to quality early learning opportunities or elementary education for their young children. Still others need support for youth with criminal violations, who face enormous challenges to graduating high school and maintaining a crime-free life. Lena Pope provides programs and services for these children and families, often at no cost and always at rates they can afford.

CURRENT PROGRAMS
The agency focuses on evidence-based prevention and early intervention activities that improve the lives of children and families. Current programs include:
• The Lena Pope Early Learning Centers: Provide quality early learning to young children at a price that low income families can afford.

• Chapel Hill Academy: A public-enrollment charter school, provides education that focuses on each Pre-K to 6th grade student's needs. Chapel Hill Academy has earned the state's highest accountability rating.

• Lena Pope Counseling Services: Mental health therapy for families so they can grow stronger. Services are provided regardless of income at rates each family can afford.

• School and Community Based Services: Gives youth the social, behavioral, and academic tools they need to be crime-free.
My name is Wendy. I am the mother of 3 beautiful children. My oldest child, Jaiden, attended Chapel Hill Academy for 1st through 5th grades. She graduated in 2015. My two sons, Antonio and Dorien, currently attend the charter school. They have both been there since Pre-K and are now in 3rd grade and 2nd grade.

Lena Pope and Chapel Hill Academy have been a tremendous blessing to my family. There have been scholarships for summer camps for my daughter, financial help at the holidays, diagnostic testing for my children and the comfort of knowing I am not alone in this fight.

Not only do my children receive a top-notch education, but Chapel Hill Academy is staffed with teachers and administrators that go above and beyond the normal call of duty. When I send my children to the school each morning, I know they will be loved and cared for because the staff at CHA work tirelessly for my family.

My son, Antonio, has had behavior issues since he started at Chapel Hill Academy. He has bene difficult and caused disruptions in the classroom. Antonio is color blind, suffers from a hearing loss, has ADHD and dyslexia. School has been very difficult for him. Instead of turning their backs on my son, the teachers and staff have helped mold him and worked with him. Mr. Ramirez has loved my son like his own and has dedicated many hours to helping Antonio get better.

The school referred me to counseling services at Lena Pope for Antonio, and the difference it has made in my son's life has been remarkable! The therapist came up with a plan and we set goals together. No other therapist has done that with us. We have not had one outburst in school since Antonio started seeing the therapist. Antonio is doing so great at school this year and is so much happier.

I am very thankful for the wonderful people at Lena Pope. You have helped change my family.
